Well, I looked through the old posting and didn't see anything that mentioned the best box to pull in stations. I have Apex, DTVpal plus, and Philco, but none of them bring in the stations as good as a Series 3 Tivo that I just bought. So I thought, 'surely there is a digital converter box that brings in the station as good or better than the Series 3 Tivo!'. I don't plan to replace the Series 2 Tivos with newer versions of Tivos.

The Apex is known to be weak, and from what I've heard TV's with digital tuners built in work way better than any converter so I assume would be same for series 3. Does the series 3 give you 30 minute buffer without sub?

It has service for two more weeks, so I will find out then.

That is except if Tivo will transfer my subscription from a old Series 1 with lifetime to the Series 3. I am currently working on getting the Series On up and running so Tivo can see it. And then give Tivo a call and see if Christmas is coming early for me.

I will take a look at the suggested links for a better digital conversion box.
    Thanks.

Yes, the buffer has nothing to do with a subscription.

I also have a Zinwell ZAT970A has very strong tuner. I bought it because it has timers but would sometimes decide to change to different channel than told to, but is one that gets the extended guide 2 weeks or more for some channels.

I have a Zenith DTT900 that works fine. The Tivo can change channels and everything on it.

Used it all the time before I got my HD Tivo.

I ordered the DISH Network DTVPal Plus years ago and spend a lot of money just because they were highly rated high for good reception, but they weren't any bit better than the regular DTv pal. The only good thing about them was that I found that they had the appropriate codes to tune the Series 1Tivo.

So seeing that the DTV pal has the microtune electronics, I guess I won't bother trying to find another converter just for that microtune electronics inside.
Initially, I also bought the DTV pal because it had the timer feature built into it, so I could use it connect to a VCR and the DTVPAL would change the channel so the VCR didn't have to.(of course my old VCRs could no longer change channels for the signals coming in. As those signals were being converter by the DTV pal. But I never used that feature because that is when I started using Tivos.

    Agreed.

CM7000 does RF, Composite, and S-Video. Hands down the winner in way of PQ In my book.

    Cheers!

Out of the Zenith dtt900, Apex, rca, and the channelmaster cm7000.. the winner still is.. 1> Channelmaster
    2> Zenith dtv900
    3> rca 800
and dead last was the Apex...

Is the CM-7001 another Echostar product, like the CM-7000PAL DVR? The CM-7001 sure looks like the old legacy Echostar sat boxes made for Dish Network, although looks closer to the 8XX line of Echostar MPEG2 HD sat with ATSC tuner boxes made for Dish. Considering how UN-Echostar the CM-7000 looks, it is a little troubling that the CM-7001 looks way too much like the old Echostar boxes knowing that Channel Master brands the Echostar ATSC DVR.

I bought a Humax HFA 100 Receiver and can't believe that it has a better tuner than any Tivo or converter box that I have ever used. And I think that I have used them all!
But the bad thing is, I can't seem to find the IR codes to use it with a Series 2 or Series 1 Tivo.

Strange I could have sworn I posted a comment about the CM7000 in this thread recently.... shrug.
