I've just ftp'd an updated UI graphic over to my main TiVo, and installed it with changeimage.tcl:

    Code:
    bash-2.02# ./changeimage.tcl BlackWhiteRightCap.3
Saving old image ID 2210497 to file BlackWhiteRightCap.3.backup.png
    Installing image file BlackWhiteRightCap.3.png
    New image resource id: 2497164
    bash-2.02#

Did a System Reset, and get:

    1. Welcome. Power Up
    2. CacheCard - writing/verifying/caching
    3. Almost there. A few more seconds...
    4. Reboot. Rinse and repeat :(

Any ideas? HD failure? (IIRC the CacheCard splashscreen is capable of displaying SMART disc errors, but there arent any shown)

Also, is there any way to skip the CacheCard initialisation (to speed up the boot process)?

    Update:

It definately (something on?) the HDD - I've dug out my "spare" TiVo, swapped HDDs and PSUs around etc.

What's the best way to reinstall the OS (and hopefully keep the recordings intact)? I've tried Kickstart 52/57/58 in desparation, but without much luck...

If it was working before you changed the picture, have you tried changing the picture back to what it was before? !

Depending on how quickly it reboots, telnet should be accessible a moment after the "almost there" screen appears - it might be possible to get in and reverse your change, if you have the commands ready to paste in..

Not really, all the logo graphics etc have always been stored as PNG on the TiVo itself.

    Browse through tivoweb at http://192.168.1.199/mfs/Resource/Image

Anyway - in regard to the rebooting problem:

After installing a new image, you should also have flushed the resources:

    ./flushres.tcl

Did you do that ? (they're cached in MFS as well as RAM, so just rebooting isn't enough).

No, I didn't - and have subsequently wondered if this is could have caused my problem...

Anyhow, I've since restored a backup image and am up and running once more :)

Yes, if don't run the flush script, TiVo will still be looking for the (missing) old image on startup, and reboot / crash when it's not there.

    You'll know next time ;)

I assume you were installing mrtickle's improved graphics from here
