Is TiVo still updating the software for the Old TiVo Experience? Been stuck on 20.7.4RC42 for a while now.

Maintenance and the like, likely yes; new features and the like, likely lesser and/or no.

TiVo Ted has posted here that new development is going to be for TE4 and to not really expect anything for TE3.

I vote no. The Standby bug is only an issue for those with several TiVo units and the fix is to not use standby. I do worry any fix for TE3 might cause more harm than good.

TE4 isn't getting much love either. TiVo is just now having its MSO rollout. Seems about a year behind.

What will cause TE3 to die will be if some popular external service (Netflix, Amazon, Plex) will change and require a TE3 software change.

And not all bugs will be fixed either. TiVo Ted has said there are bugs in the TE3 software that will never get fixed.

One such example might be the new TiVo Mini Wireless Adapter, per a fresh post in the CES 2019 thread:

I wonder. Is TiVo, which I'm afraid has little wireless success, is looking at this adapter as part of a system, of just a piece added to their system, I really hope the beta people get a chance to spend some time with it in various ways. Last weekend I replaced my router. I'm running four Mini units, all with wireless bridges, displaying 1080i TV content from two different hosts (TE3 & TE4) for three hours. Tomorrow I'm going to try four YouTube feeds.

When I hear "CPU and memory performance" used, is it the network?

If it's a USB adapter, I expect it hits the USB host device's resources.

All understood, and yet personally, I'd avoid any jumping-the-whatever at this early point. TiVo has to start with the development on some system, and, as @TiVo_Ted has said, this is the "initial driver work." Also, in his noting that "I’m not sure whether we’ll be able to duplicate the work on TE3," it sounds like that is something in the realm of consideration, if the engineering is possible.

Of course, in saying the above, I'm now, myself, speculating on the number of angels who can dance on the head of a pin, and things at TiVo change--witness the Mavrik device. I know what I hope for--there is a nice chunk of a TE3 audience out there, with $ in hand--but we'll have to see.

Is anyone familiar with the TE3 standby bug able to confirm that behavior does not exist on TE4?

    Thanks in advance.

I confirm with a TE4 Roamio host in Standby I can access it without a BSC from a TE4 Mini or any TE3 device. I don't have a Bolt and I don't use power saving. But my Roamio TE4 host spends 90% of its life running in Standby. I use it for movie storage and program backups right now.

Who cares? The apps will just stop working. Streaming on a TiVo sucks anyway, that's what Roku and Chromecast are for.

Streaming via TiVo boxes is entirely adequate, and loss of any of the major streaming services would be a problem. Hard to imagine that happening any time soon, though.

I'm OK with the way TE3 works now. If it never gets another update I think I'd be alright. And unless there is some major new feature that I just have to have there is no way I'm jumping over to TE4. It's gotten a bit better in the recent updates, but I still don't like it and I'm certain my wife would complaint about it if I forced it upon her.

Kinda like, the inadvertent/unintended elimination of PC -> TE4 TiVo box show transfer capability? ;)
