A friend is moving away from using Tivo and is selling me a Bolt for a very inexpensive price.
It doesn't have lifetime. it is still in their name, and I wanted to check and see if there are any deals like adding lifetime for $99 or anything before switching it to my name.

    Thanks,

I don't know of any off-hand, but you could always play CSR roulette and ask nicely. You could let them know your friend is transferring ownership of the TiVo to you (that should be a first call your friend makes to remove it from their account and add it to yours) and then ask if they have any offers for LT/All-in. Play the ol' card of you are not sure about subscribing but would consider if they had a good LT offer.....or something like that.

A while back there was reports that while trying to cancel within the initial 30 day cancelation period, the user was offered a deal in order for them not to cancel.

    YMMV.

They offered me $299 on a Bolt a few weeks back. I said no thanks and continue to pay $10 a month.

Is your $10 on a Bolt currently or older device? Is it with a commitment to 12 months or actually 'month to month'. I've a few 'Lifetime/All-In' machines but I'd like to tinker with a Bolt that I just bought in a situation similar to the OP I suspect. My issue is I don't speak and it's tough to play the CSR roulette thing. CHAT wouldn't touch it! No Ted or Margret makes for difficult experiences.

Reach out in a conversation if you like. I need to do something.

When you make the call post back with the responses. Will they allow you to continue his 'month to month' with no commitment or will it be NEW?

They offered me nothing, no discounts. Fully price everything if I want to activate. I said no.

What was the ask? $$$ Per Month w/commitment & cancel in 30 days if unhappy or just $$$ Per Month & Month to Month 'no commitment'?

So 12.40 per if you commit for the year. OK - I think for me to do correct testing etc for this Bolt I'm doing I could be OK with that. Does your friend still have months left on his commitment? If the friend did then I can see where this could work out for you if they let you pick up balance of his and move on with $149 /year after his is done.

    No, he doesn't.

I didn't realize that Ota tivo subscriptions are only half the price. We only use OTA. but this tivo is cable/ota.

The only leverage you have is the threat of cancellation. Sign up for the no commitment monthly plan and call to cancel near the end of the 30 day cancellation period. Keep hanging up and calling back until they give you the right answer.
