I think it is definitely the case that the "screeners" let through two distinct groups of people: those whom they believe actually might have a chance (The Duttons, the father/son circus act, the sax guy...) and those who don't have a shot but will make for good entertainment when they get cut (the Elvis guy? Come on...).

Is Regis not back because of his health?

not too many 'jerry' chants ...maybe they were told not to

I wish trick change people would be back. But i guess you cant do repeats. letting obvious failures on the show is a waste of time. I'm sure there are enough 'good 'potentials out there that at least show skill. No i dont need to really see a pogo stick guy juggling eggs while playing the tuba, but at least it's a skill more than singing while wearing a hideous outfit.

why did sharon come out when she said she would never go back on stage? totally seemed staged if you ask me. All this AI copycat crap is nuts.

and the brit saying stuff was wonderful when you expected him and even the audience to hate it was disconcerting.

I had the same feeling... After the Jewel impersonator and the "Supremes," I just couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth. It seemed really odd, as if somebody was telling him that he has a quota of "yes" votes to meet and he had to pick the best of the worst (as Ramsay would put it.)

The Supremes weren't bad, but I just didn't like the Jewel wannabe's choice of song style. And I love Jewel. But this isn't a competition for celebrity impersonators...

I think her mistake was trying to cover a Jewel song in a style that Jewel uses to "mix up" her own stuff. I don't particularly care for Jewel's own rendition of "Who Will Save Your Soul" when she does it in that free-form, skat-like way. Had she just done a straight cover of the tune, it may have been better. I did really like her voice.

I'm thinking that Piers noticed that she actually has talent and is giving her another chance to sing another song.

Something else in the credits surprised me: I don't know if this is how it worked last year, but this time, the million dollars is payable as a 40-year annuity, and the winner has the option of taking the "lump sum" value of the annuity as the prize instead. (If the annuity pays off 3.75% annually, it needs to have a $400,000 base value, assuming the $400,000 is paid after the 40 years.)

i think maybe (yes i know last year) singing people shouldnt even be in this competition...while singing is definitely a talent, there are so many more...'physical' talents that are 'better'...that being relative term of course.

i think you know what i mean

What I didn't get was him telling some of the acts (like the young ventriloquist) that they were too childish to be on the show. Last I check, America's Got Talent is kind of in a "family hour" time slot (7pm central) so what would be the problem in some of the acts being more kid-friendly?

As the little kids were coming out, I said to my wife: "Uh oh, Piers isn't going to like --" and I got cut off by Piers' buzzer.

I did the same thing. I mean, it was quite obvious that the little ones weren't even playing...they were just thrown out there for the awe value. Now, what would have been amazing was if the two-year old were playing the fiddle for real. Now THAT would be talent.

Is "Britain's Got Talent" available in the U.S.? I checked the one BBC channel in my cable lineup and it is not there. Does some other channel carry it?
