He refused, and Ryan grabbed him by the elbow and gently walked him over to that group.

Also I'm glad they didn't do their usual lame "I'd like so in so from Group A to switch with so in so from Group B."

Really? That's how it happened? Darn, I guess Scott was a wimp after all then. :(

He just kept muttering "I can't do that, don't make me do that."

That is called the Huff maneuver and with one exception has never been done to a winner.
Taylor Hicks was an outlier in many respects.

IMO that was Idols version of revisionist history- Jimmy told us what to think because the judges had failed so miserably to do so. It was irrelevant to the results as those were already in.
It was not irrelevant to opinions being formed on various contestants remaining in the competition.
This is the second time this season they have used him this way.

Oh, and I rather enjoyed that musical/dancing performance by Jennifer Lopez. I think it blew away the stage performance that Paula Abdul did on AI.

Isn't that like comparing a high school baseball player to Babe Ruth? Of course he doesn't hold a candle to any of them, he's fricken 16 years old. Did any of those guys really live the music until they got famous? He is what he is, a contestant on American Idol.

And after he got next to Haley, she said "Did you actually do that?" and he replied "No, he pushed me."

I've been calling him Alfred E for a while now. I just imagine Randy Travis saying "what, me worry?"

Interesting, well whatever it's called, I think it's a pretty crappy thing for the show to do. I've hated it every time I've seen it on any show. These contestants have all become pretty close friends during the competition. I wouldn't want to be in that situation either.

Lest anyone misunderstand, Scotty is not my favorite to win (that honor goes to James), but I wouldn't kill me if he did. Like everyone has said, all four of these finalists are most likely set anyway (To what level of success we don't know.) Add in Pia and Casey and I think this Idol has been one of the most prolific ever!

I had replayed that a few times wondering they were saying, but couldn't make it out. Even the closed captioning wasn't picking it up

I thought that was a pretty low thing to do to the kid actually, putting him on the spot like that. I think we all knew which group was safe. I can't blame Scotty for not doing it.

Yes, to not mislead the thoughts behind my comment: I agree it was a low thing to do. I was just thinking that given the low thing has been done, I think sitting on the floor like David Archuletta did would have been kind of silly, especially in this situation where it seemed obvious (at least to me) which half was safe.

Little did I know until it was pointed out to me in this thread that Ryan actually pushed him over there.

I FF'd through J. Lo. There's something odd about a talent show judge using the platform to push his/her own music.

Yes, no question he said that. And you could see Ryan (gently) pushing him to that group.

Actually he is 17 (not 19) per the AI website (he hasn't even graduated from high school yet!)

My bad - the people at work keep saying he's 19, and I didn't bother to research it.
