David Archuleta, wasn't it? The kid with the stage dad?
Really? His cover of "Billy Jean" was GREAT! (even if Chris Cornell did it first).
David Archiletta was second that year (yawn). David Cook was the last guy I thought deserved to win who actually did.
Yeah I forgot about that, I guess it was pretty good. I hated that his "rock voice" sounded fake and forced, like he was injecting himself with the flu virus to stay hoarse.
His singles have been quite dull, which is the norm for Idol winners.
Oh yeah! Disney David!
Yeesh. Well, at least I have some unexpected free time next week.
Add me to the list of people only mildly interested after James was gone. All country final... zzzzzzz.
I've just not cared since Durbin left.
I know lots liked Haley, but she didn't do anything for me. I have no idea what kind of artist or genre she was interested in being. Her song choices were all over the map.
Scotty is going to take it home.
I think he's a one trick pony, but it's an admittedly good trick. I can't imagine listening all the way through a whole CD of his, though. Heard one song; you've heard them all.
I'll watch the finale, but only for guest performances and other antics. I have zero interest in the contestants and will just FF past them.
Pebbles VS Bam Bam
Funny you should mention this. Last night we let our kids (4 and 6) watch the prior night s performances. During Scotty's 2nd or 3rd performance my 4 yr. old daughter exclaimed "He just did this song!". I looked at my wife and we both laughed. I've been telling her this for weeks. He just does the same old same old all the time. If this was Country Idol, he should win. But he really doesn't have a range. At least Lauren can do country or pop.
Unfortunately there were no surprises last night. It should be closer now that some votes will be split amongst the two country singers, but I still believe Scotty's following is too great for him to lose.
Ellen had James as a guest yesterday. They showed HIS homecoming and 30,000 people showed up for him!
He did an awesome performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" too.
If you look at the Dial Idol numbers Scotty is untouchable. Forgone conclusion if you ask me.
I'm not sure how accurate Dial Idol is now since AI opened up internet voting, but I do agree with you 100%. Maybe I'll tune in to see how Lauren reacts to losing.
I think most of us underestimated the power of the country vote, they really support their singers. Add to that the teenage girl vote and that's where we are.
I'm through with Country Idol this year.
Let's see how they support Scotty's album sales after he wins. Another ho-hum mildly-successful winner coming our way. Maybe he and Archuleta can do a tour together for the teenage girls.
When Casey was voted off, I kept the season pass and watched the following shows in about 5 minutes (the results show in about 30 secs).
After Haley was voted off, I deleted the season pass. Hopefully whatever data is sold shows they lost at least one long-time viewer.
AI has become a shadow of itself over the last year. Horrible judges (did they actually do any judging?), a less transparent voting scheme than ever, and an all-country final.
Adios, I say.
People aren't voted off. People vote for the people they want to continue.
ROFL. One of the more concise and well written posts of the thread.
You know what I mean... It has the same practical effect.
Its actually very different. If people voted instead for who they liked the LEAST - the results would be very different. They would also get WAY less votes (which is why they don't do it that way).
My point is that when we have, say, 12 people left, and one person is better than over half the singers there, and yet they got the least votes and got eliminated, that means that a bunch of worse singers got voted as the favorite contestant, by people, while the better singer got the least votes for favorite singer. In my mind, the collective wisdom of those voters is subpar.
This also doesn't even address my point about the singers that got advance before the votes were opened up to the voters. The bad decisions made then, is on the judges.
