"wasn't very nice?"
That girl is CRAZY. Certifiable.
I don't see the "cute" either...
I wish I knew 14 year olds who looked like that when I was 14.
after that BS she should have just made her own group. It was embarrassing watching her. Oh let me go back to my group. Wait, they hate me let me go over there.
I guess you have to be a little self-absorbed to be a performer, but wow
That show was a wonderful train wreck. I couldn't take my eyes off all the drama queens. (of course I'm looking forward to the real singing competition, but this ep was so much better than the previous ones)
It would seem to me that your percentage chance of being chosen would be tied to your luck in getting into a particular group. If you get into one with great singers, your chances go down. If you aren't that wonderful yourself, but the rest of your group is worse you can get through.
Makes you wonder if they stack the groups knowing ahead of time sort of who they want in the finals.
I do like the idea that there won't necessarily be an even number of men and women this year. The last few years they either had to scrape up questionable performers in one catagory or another to make it even.
This year if there are three non-sex based choices (one from each of the three groups of 12) and three wild cards -- we could have six candidates chosen on merit alone.
Shouldn't that be nine candidates on merit? Technically, there are two "non-sex based choices" in in each group, as the top two vote-getters automatically advance regardless of gender.
This year the contestants got to pick their own groups. IIRC previous years it was assigned.
Edit:Looks like we are talking about different groups.
Note that I consider the Top 36 as the finals as that is when us get to come in and start to vote.
Not sure if I agree with this. I think it can help to be with a really good group. In both of the groups that were really good, the girls (and I have no idea what their names are) didn't seem like anything special. That may just be because they were not featured in the editing, other than the girl in the first group rapping (but not singing). Those groups were so good, though, that the judges put all members of the groups through. Maybe if those girls were in a weaker group, they wouldn't have made it. Just saying I think it works both ways. Your group can bring you down, but it can also help you.
You two are talking about different things.
You are talking about groups on group night. barbeedoll (replying to me) is talking about which group of 12 a member of the top 36 will appear with when the live shows start.
I fell victim to that as well.
Never mind, then.
My fault for not reading more closely.
In past years, I think the show has referred to the top 24 (this year increased to 36) as the semi-finals, and the top 12 as the finals.
But I could be remembering that wrong.
I have always remember the wording final XX that were left that week, but it could be I am wrong. It could also be we are both wrong and final/top are interchanged and mean the same and there is no one designation.
it will never be a truly 'fair' competition from a talent basis. They have 'slots' to fill with different needs..male/female/cute/crazy etc.
