One was Mariah, but I doubt they are that far apart in weight (given mariah's height).

The purpose is to air an entertaining reality show, so finding the idol is not all they care about. It probably is not in the top 2.

That was pretty funny, and he did look like Sly.

At this point in the "show" ... it is all the entertainment factor...

Looking for the IDOL won't happen till part 3 of the series (when they are down to the point where the public get's to vote)

    4 part series:

    Auditions
    Hollywood
    Final Groups (public vote)
Final 12 (or what ever number they use this year)

I really liked the fact that one mother said "if he had come in dressed like a rich kid they would have taken him." Then about two contestants later some good looking guy dressed nicely comes in, speak sings his way like a pile of **** through some song and they gush all over him. Few singers later a not so good looking guy comes in, croaks through the same song sounding just as bad as the good liking guy and they shred him. Guess image is everything. What the hell was that song anyway? It sounds sort of like "Walking in Memphis."

that apple didn't fall from the tree very far. Supporting your kid is wonderful. Going off the deep end with less than positive comments towards the judges just teaches the kid it's ok to do.

    It's always the parents ;)

The part I love is that they blurred out the cover of the dvd. But I have to admit, the guy confessing to using that dvd was just priceless.

I'm sure they are thrilled they made it onto TV. I find it very hard to believe most of these bad singers are geniune. They are putting on a show of attitude and BS trying their best to get on TV.

The flashy white outfit girl was clearly doing everything she could so that her footage didn't end up on the cutting room floor. It worked. She was heralded as being one of the top bad AI auditions of all time. If she took it gracefully, she might not have gotten any air time.

When I saw her, my first comment to my wife was "Why is she even on this show?" Frankly, it probably would have been better for her career if the judges said "you know what? You're too damn good for this show - quite possibly the most talented performer we've ever had. We're going to say 'no' because you're going to get a huge recording contract anyway without having to deal with AI."

If she's THAT good and apparently THAT well grounded at age 17, I shudder to think how good she'll be by age 25, if the show doesn't turn her into an annoying pop princess.

Am I the only person who didn't think she was that good? Yeah she has quite a bit natural talent, but it is really rough right now. Not really sure why people are so blown away by people on this show. If you went into the music department of any large high school around the country, you could find pleanty of people who are more talented than what ends up in the finals of Idol. If you went to a large university you would find even more talented people. Damn I just through out my pitch for a new reality show on the TCF!

Wow, how anticlimatic can you get? The whole show teased a big showdown between Paula and the girl in the white and silver (I can't remember her name), and there was absolutley nothing. All the girl did was complain to the cameras. Boo!!

What a maroon. Arrested in August and December for the same things and she appearently got all pissy during the December arrest resulting in more charges.

She'll be the belle of cellblock D.

    Might as...
Did anyone else find it funny when the one contestant wanted Paula to dance with him? And how the guys constantly egged her on? I just kept thinking, "Man, her lawyers must be loving this." ;)

My other favorite moment was when it was revealed that Paula's voice training DVD was put to good use.

Btw, this is my first real time giving Idol a chance. Are there usually 6 rounds of auditions? Or did they just inflate the number because the auditions were a huge hit? Also, does anyone know when the actual season (i.e. competition) starts?

I think Paula looks quite a bit better this season. She also seems more coherent.

This is also my first go around with Idol, I've avoided it int he past and now have been sucked in that I'm living with my fiance.

I really like the girl that lived with her grandparent, Kelly Pickler I think. Very good, overall it's been a good first few shows.

I also liked the guy that got paula to dance, not bad.

That whole thing kind of creeped me out. The guy was practically grinding into her and singing "Let's Get It On", then when his wife came in he said something to the effect that she could join in (for a threesome). I thought the guy was pretty skeevy and I'm amazed that, after last year's allegations, Paula would get up and dance with him, much less straddle him out the door...

I'm hoping the Pickler girl does well. She's my favorite so far.

Was it just me or is Fox's audio bad. For both the Tuesday and Wednesday show the audio would break down whenever an s sound was made. It almost made watching the show impossible.

I watched OTA from philly and everything was perfect. The colors on this show also seem better than pretty much any other show i watch on any network period. I dont know why as this show is not nearly my favorite and i dont care.

Maybe it's the lighting thing they do on network shows.
