I think the two hour penalties are only for failing to complete a challenge/task.

I'm pretty sure that taking the wrong form of transportation has always been 30 minutes plus any time gained from taking that transportation over what you were supposed to take.

I like the newscasters, although they are kind of boring. I'm rooting for them, though.

I am not a fan of Justin or Chris. Diana seems actually pretty cool and I like her. Logan comes off badly at time but I think that is more Chris fault and his constant negativity.

    I'm rooting for the newscasters.

I thought the episode title was great.

I was actually starting to feel a little bit sorry about the green team when they were in the taxi in the beginning, then he starts being a royal jerk again.

Apparently the bubbles coming up from the bottom of the pool combined with the overhead lights shining down on the pool made it really difficult to see into the water. We didn't ever see her "go right by" the fish. She was always a little ways off and usually not deep enough.

At the beginning of the leg I assumed it would be non-elimination, so I was surprised when Phil explained the Pit Stop and said, "the last team to arrive WILL be eliminated." At that point, we knew it wasn't non-elim and that either the Green Team or the Cheerleaders would be going home.

I would have been really sad to see the Green Team get eliminated here. While I agree that Justin is immature and cocky and a jerk, they are also by far the best team in the race, and I like to see the best team succeed. Just like I felt cheated in previous seasons when teams like the Beekman Boys and the Sweet Scientists came out of nowhere on the final leg to win, I would have felt cheated if Green got eliminated before the finals due to a stupid taxi error. Based on the editing, I don't expect Green to win, so I'll have to see how I feel on Friday when yet another inferior team comes from behind to win.

I don't know that the newscasters are really THAT inferior... certainly not on the level of the other teams you mentioned. I feel like there have been fewer natural bunch up points in this race than others, and up until now it has let them just keep maintaining the same lead.

How about not reading the clue? I was a Green Team fan but Justin's arrogance just turned me off.

I agree that the Newscasters aren't "inferior" like the teams I mentioned. I don't think I'll be bothered if they win. I was simply pointing out that as a fan of the Race, I prefer the best teams to do well, thus proving that it's primarily a skill-based race rather than something that's purely left to chance, which it can feel like when teams get eliminated based on a bad taxi driver.

I don't think they didn't read the clue. I don't think the clue gave any indication how close/far the cell phone turn-in place was from the baskets of phones. Yes, they failed by not figuring out where they were before asking the cab driver to take them somewhere, but in a foreign city in a stressful racing situation, you don't always have time to get a map or ask bystanders on the street for directions. You frequently rely on the cab drivers to know the city and get you where you need to be.

When the cab first pulled away from the location and the camera zoomed in on the name of the street which was the street they were supposed to go to, I wondered if they got one of those unscrupulous cab drivers that was going to take them the "long way" and drive them for 10-15 minutes before bringing them back to the correct location. But it soon became clear that he simply had no idea where he was going and that's just bad luck.

Edit: Let me be clear. I have no problem with viewers rooting against Team Green because of Justin's antics. Any hate directed toward him is certainly warranted. I simply don't get emotionally invested like that and I typically root for teams based on their racing prowess and not their demeanor. For example, I remember being surprised when I found out lots of fans were rooting against Colin and Christie in one of the early seasons, because I was a huge fan due to how well they were racing. I was also surprised during the first season of Survivor when all the news and radio shows were talking about how "evil" Richard Hatch was, when from my perspective, he was the only one playing the game the "correct" way.

The thing that almost cost them was going to the wrong ferry terminal. The clue was specific, but Justin said it'd be fine when Diana questioned that the directions they got were for the Kowloon ferry.

Yeah, once the woman said they couldn't buy that particular ticket at the ferry they were at, only the other one, alarm bells should have gone off in his head.

The Green Team didn't read the clue as to which train to take. That caused the Green Team to incur the 55 minute penalty.

True, you guys are right. That is an uncharacteristic mistake for the Green Team to have made, and I guess if it caused them to get eliminated, that would have been their own fault. I wonder why the Race producers wanted the teams to take the slower ferry to Macau. Was it a situation where they needed the extra time for Phil to get in place?

Also, it was very uncharacteristic of a true fan of the Race to choose the "needle in a haystack" side of the Detour. Justin seemed surprised when they arrived and that's what the task was. I wonder if they didn't read the clue fully before deciding which Detour to do.

My take on Krista not finding the fish was that she just didn't go deep enough. With the bubbles and lighting as mentioned above, I can see where you wouldn't be able to swim just below the surface and see deep enough to see the fish from there.

The shots where she was 'close to the fish' were just filmed from below and she was in proximity. I think it was strictly a matter of depth, and she never went deep enough in her early attempts.

I hear you, but I don't think the green teem is particularly skilled, especially compared to other teams in the past. Like laria said, I think they have had the advantage of a season without as many bunch-up points as in the past, so they've taken an early lead and just kept it. Put them in a race with some of the better teams in past seasons and give them something that requires more duress than simply turning on cell phones at random, and I bet they wouldn't seem so strong.

Justin seems particularly adept at fobbing off the hard challenges and leaving them for his partner to do.

I know the frequent bunch ups are necessary (in an early season one team in the finals was more than a day behind) but that also gives a team like Chris/Logan a legit shot at the million. Ugh.

Listened to an exit interview with the Cheerleaders. A couple interesting tidbits (I'll spoilerize even though these things don't give away any info):

Krista said that the bubbles was the reason she couldn't see the fish. She said that when she was standing on the edge of the pool between the shows, she could clearly see the fish so she knew where they were and what she was looking for, but once the show started and the bubbles came on, she just couldn't see anything underwater.

Also, when they took their taxi to the Pit Stop, they got to where they could see Phil and the Green Team was still serving their penalty. But their driver wouldn't pull over and stop, and they were in heavy traffic on a road that was divided, so their driver took them all the way to the end of the road before he pulled over and let them out. At that point, they had to find another cab to take them back, and by the time they got there, they missed beating the Green Team's penalty by 5 minutes.

If she knew where they were, then it seems like she should have been waving her arms around a lot more trying to feel them.. yeah I know the camera POV was apparently misleading about how close she really was

Wow just 5 minutes behind the Greens. That sucks. I've said in other TAR threads I'd like to see a 90 minute finale and a 30 minute reunion/followup show. It doesn't have to be live. Just Phil asking a few questions that viewers have.
