Please, he represents himself, not deaf people. No more than Jen represents AA or Jamie represents cheerleaders. And what did Colin and Christy represent?

I think Tammy and Victor are looking better. There was much of him being condescending in this episode. Even when they went from 1st to 4th at the fishing bit.

    About the fighting...
I think Luke was startled on the first one. It looked me me to be the other teams fault on that one.

The second one looked to me to be all Lukes fault, and seemed much worse then the first.

I noticed Keesha take blame for the 2nd and said the first was Lukes fault? It made me wonder about the editing.

Also, it seemed the sisters joked to let off steam while luke and margie get upset. I think this race is pretty stressful, thats why I told my wife its probably the one reality show I wouldnt do (especially with her, I am way to competative.) I can imagine its much tougher if you are deaf. The previous leg Luke was carried by his mom. This week, he tried the task and got bit by a bird, and had altercations at the clue box. Hes probably near an emotional breaking point, which is why it doesnt take much to upset him.

I still think the girls were laughing it off, not laughing at Luke. I definately dont think they were laughing because he was having trouble communicating. If anything, they were laughing because he was taking the issue so seriously and they were uncomfortable.

And it's the one I would most like to do. In fact my SIL and I have joked about applying together. My wife wouldn't want to do it mostly because of the gross interesting food competitions they sometimes have.

I think it is clear they were laughing at him (though not for being deaf). They specifically said they were going to laugh and smile in an attempt to further irritate him, IIRC.

I bet if not for his mother, he'd be able to read lips, etc.
I wonder how he's going to communicate once she's out of the picture.

I think many of us are way too quick to judge people based on a few highly edited minutes of a TV show.

It's my impression from reading their bios.
"they use their own language to communicate" etc.
He never had the chance to grow up and learn how to deal with life and his disability.

The exact quote from Luke was "Calling the deaf guy a ***** is not nice." Just went and rewatched it to make sure.

They represented one of my favorite teams in the history of TAR. Other than the ox incident, Colin was one of the best racers of all time, and Christy was just plain hawt!
That's funny. I really want to apply with a friend of mine, but my wife also wants to do it and she'd be pissed if I did it without her, so I've simply not applied.

Very similar how second children's lang development usually lags. The older sibling tends to communicate for them. In this case mommy is always by his side, communicating for him.

Did anyone else catch Mother Hen say something along the lines of "Hearing people always make fun of deaf people!" at the pit stop?

Luke and his mom need to get over themselves. Luke acts like a whiny brat because he's a whiny brat, not because he's deaf.

Absolutely....If we could match tammy with margie we'd have a winning team.

I seriously think Luke has developmental problems. He reacts to adversity like he had in the 'Chekhov' word scramble task in Russia like a 10 year old -- whining, moaning, freaking out. Well, like, a little ***** :)

Christy was indeed hot but she was also a complete *****. I can still recall the breeding comment.... Let's discuss whether those two should be allowed to breed.

I wonder if he ever fixed his Ox? :D

Wasn't it Kendra (also hot) that made the breeding comment? I don't remember Christy saying anything objectionable.

Interesting. From what I've seen so far, I didn't think Margie's signing was always correct, so it does seem like they have their own "language."

Um, what? He's fluent in sign language. I imagine he will communicate that way, using interpreters, or writing things down, if he needs to speak with hearing people who don't sign.

Of course on the race where he is the only deaf person, and his mother is translating for him, he is very dependent on her. That doesn't mean he is always that way. This is an unusual situation.

ETA: Indeed, Luke has been away from home earning a B.A. in criminal justice, and originally wanted to go on TAR with another deaf person. Obviously, his mother isn't holding him back in life and he's able to function just fine without her. http://www.ntid.rit.edu/media/full_text.php?article_id=861

Might be right. That was Freddy and Kendra, the other plastic couple.

I don't think it's Luke's mom's fault that he can't read lips or stuff, but that it's more of a personal choice (unless she ultimately originally made the choice for him). Keep in mind, he has the choclear (ok, I know I butchered that spelling) implant, but refuses to use it. To me, he just seems to be one of those militant deaf people that basically say they're deaf, and have no intention of trying to work around it. Obviously, that's their choice, but personally, if someone intentionally chooses to put themselves at a disadvantage, well, I don't think they should expect anyone they're dealing with to go out of their way to deal with it either.

I kept laughing at the editing during the mat fight. Luke's jacket kept being on then off. I had to rewind it just to see it again.
