Am I considered an existing customer and will get new Tivo service for just $10/m?

I have had a lifetime Sony DVR 90EA which I bought used about 5 years ago and am thinking about getting a Roamio. I can't afford lifetime but I do see that service is $15 for new customers and only $10 for existing. I have never paid a fee as I bought a lifetime unit so will I be eligible for the $10 service for the Roamio?

You can always log into your tivo.com account and it will show if you qualify for the Multiple Service Discount (MSD). Basically if there is a full priced unit in your account, you will get the discounted service on another.

What is a Sony DVR 90EA? The only Sony Tivos were the SVR2000 and the SVR3000

Its probably the last digits of the service number and newbs almost always refer to that as the model.

That is what my Tivo account lists it as, I didn't look at the back of the unit itself when making this post but I did just now and it is an SVR2000. Stupid newb.

Ok question, in the rules for MSD discount it says "for a Product Lifetime subscription to qualify you for the multi-service discount, the TiVo DVR to which it is attached must have connected to the TiVo service within the last 180 days." So since the activation date on this Tivo is listed as July 3rd, 2000 does that mean no discount for me on a second one? If so that sucks.

Can you connect it to the service? If so, try that and see if you qualify after it has been connected. Without the TiVo calling home, TiVo has no way to know if you still have it and that is required for the MSD.

It hasn't called in for about a year since I stopped using it. If I connect it and let it call it there might show a discount for the new Roamio (don't have it yet, just doing research about discount right now)?

You have a lifetimed Series 1 TiVo made by Sony.

If it still works, or can be revived, that would qualify you for the Multi-Set Discount on monthly subscriptions on other TiVos, but if it dies and quits calling in, eventually you would be deemed to no longer qualify.

For Series 1, 2, and 3 TiVos, that means $9.95 per month instead of $12.95

For anything newer, like Premieres and Roamios, I'm pretty sure all are higher, but I'm not sure how much, though you'll still qualify for whatever the MSD discount is on those models as well.

You will also qualify for a $100 discount on the price of a lifetime sub on another TiVo, bringing it down from $500 to $400.

Monthly service on my non-lifetime Premiere is $12.99 with MSD. I think it is the same for a Roamio but the only one I have has PLS.

Question, how long after purchasing a Roamio new do you have to opt in to the lifetime?

You can change a monthly to lifetime within 30 days. After 30 days you may have to wait for the one year commitment to end before it can be changed to lifetime.

You can still change to lifetime after the 30 days but you would need to pay the amount that you owe for the rest of that year commitment before getting lifetime. Unless they give you a pass for some reason.

I have a Tivo HD that has had lifetime since 2010. I called to see what kind of MSD rate I might be looking at if I added a Roamio to the account and the best they offered was $12.99. Not a terribly impressive offer.

They're going to be looking to make up the rest of the hardware cost of that Roamio out of the monthly sub for a year or so.

But at least if that HD is eligible as an MSD anchor unit you could get $100 off of Lifetime for that new S5.

I would think getting a lump sum payment of $500 would be a good enough reason.

Giving up $180 is a good reason?

Isn't MSD $12.95/mo? I think there was a $9.95/mo deal once for OTA only users, but it was temporary and has since gone away.

$12.99 is the current monthly price with MSD and has been for 4 or 5 years.

The MSD rate depends on which series Tivo you are subscribing.
$9.95/month is still a current MSD rate.
