    Long...
Overall I enjoyed it. But it wasn't quite I expected from the advance descriptions, and somewhere close to the third-of-the-way point I was really disliking the direction they were going with the story. And it was a struggle to watch a few episodes at that point. But it got better/recovered.

Still I feel generally unsatisfied watching it, like there were so many stupid plot holes in the background it was getting distracting. Somebody, I think, didn't really think through this universe they created; they just loaded it up with cool tech and plot devices.

I guess it isn't the first science fiction series that both generally enjoyed and was disappointed by. I guess I just expected better from something Netflix backed, and I don't really think it'd have been that difficult to make sure there were consistencies in the universe they created.

You didn't specify what you found inconsistent, but in the books there were lots of little things that seemed inconsistent that paid off in later chapters or subsequent books.

I’m five in and enjoying it, but the pacing and editing are preventing it from being really good. Too much stuff thrown at you without enough set up. Feels like they jammed 12-13 episodes into 5 so far.

I mostly enjoyed it, but it took a strange path.

Nudity by Dichen Lachman was quite a surprise.

I'm four episodes in and the only thing keeping me watching are the visuals. Especially now that I have a 4K HDR TV, this show looks amazing! And unlike Westworld, the nudity here feels very gratuitous.

I watched the entire season over the weekend. I liked it well enough. I'll watch a season 2 if it comes along? Has Netflix already announced a season 2? I wonder if the Bancroft family will be part of season 2?

I'm not going to watch it again, but I kinda feel like I'd pick more up if I did. A lot of terms used that I didn't pick up on. I stumbled across an article on a website I frequent. It was like an explainer for terms used in the show that aren't really explained well. If they were explained, I wasn't paying close enough attention. :)

They made some interesting changes from the book...basically, Kovacs's entire backstory (in the book, Rei isn't his sister and they have no history; Quell is just the long-dead founder of a religion, and again they have no history; the Envoys aren't a rebel outfit but rather an elite Protectorate military unit).

Really? Most of the nudity came from clones coming out of pods. Makes sense to me that they'd be nude.

    They haven't announced anything.

My favorite nudity was Ortega, and she wasn't coming out of a pod. :)

I'm only two episodes in and the nudity seems a bit much already. We've already had full frontal male and female, at least a few long takes of the star's bare bum, a sex scene, and plenty of bare breasts... what seems like every few minutes of the show. It made me think of that SNL skit about Blue Oyster Cult's Fear the Reaper where the producer kept saying "it needs more cowbell." Except replace cowbell with nipples! The nudity in Westworld I barely remember which means it probably wasn't gratuitous. I think it's all in the directing and editing in how it comes across. Sometimes it just feels like a cheap way to get more viewers or fill time. They could focus more on fleshing out characters rather than just having characters show more flesh!

If you are only 2 episodes in, you have plenty more nudity to come.

I find it funny that people complain about nudity in a show with such extreme violence. Violence never seems to be gratuitous. :)

The whole thing. The sequence with Dichen was all clones, as was the early scene with the guy who plays Bancroft.

Well that's pretty much how the book was. Boobs, boners, 68+1, every time Kovacs looked at a woman he got a hard on.

Which brings me to Miriam. She seems mis-cast (age-wise) I pictured her much young in the book.

So because they're "clones" it's not real?!

This got me to look up how old the actress was that played her. Wikipedia says she is 45. I would have guessed she was closer to 55 in the show. I don't know if that is from make-up or what.

I think at one point, Bancroft said it was better to appear older as a Meth. People don't have as much respect for people that look young. So, maybe their clones look a little older, but inside they are like 20 year olds?

    Where'd you get that from?

No, the point is that the nudity wasn't gratuitous. It makes perfect sense for them to be nude.

    This is America after all!

Violence can be gratuitous too. But, considering a good chunk of our entertainment revolves around cops, crime, murderers, or war... it doesn't seem as gratuitous usually. If I was watching something like "The Deuce" which is about the porn industry and on HBO I would expect to see a ton of sex and nudity. Not all sex scenes and nudity is gratuitous either. When it becomes gratuitous is when there is a lot of it but it doesn't really have anything to add to the story, it only involves the very attractive people, and is shot in a manner to be titillating. It's actually kind of refreshing when there's nudity or sex scenes with less attractive people, it serves as a little PSA reality check!

Part of the reason people are more bothered by sex than violence is because watching tv and movies is often a group activity for family and friends. I think pretty much everyone would be more comfortable watching a long gun shootout than a long sex scene with your family and friends.... even when everyone is an adult. I don't think the phrase "hey, grandma wanna watch a porno together," has ever been uttered.:)
