Just watched the first season of Ricky Gervais' show "After Life".

Its about a man wallowing in depression after his wife's death due to cancer. He's a miserable bleep to everyone cause he is so myopic, and inward focused. It took me a few episodes not to completely hate the guy (part of that may be cause I dont like Gervais all that much). But over the arc of the season you see his character develop, and you see how much pain he's in.

only 6 episodes, a half hour each so not a huge time commitment.

    really left me thinking.

I enjoyed it and I really like Gervais’ humor in general. I hope they do additional seasons.

If you like Gervais, then I believe you would think After Life is funny, yes. I laughed out loud many times.

My wife just watched this, and loved it. I'm thinking about watching it, but...
I've never really cared for his humor, or style, either. Was this show good enough to overcome your dislike?

I liked it, to consider it depressing misses the whole point.

    SimolSi style to Derek.

Understandable. Not everyone likes SimolSi styled shows. :)

What is SimolSi? I tried googling it and got nothing.

I’m guessing an odd autocorrect of “similar in style to Derek”.

Oops, that is what it meant (I'll leave it for the follow up) my phone keyboard has a weird habit of completely messing up words, others have mentioned the same.

I was never a big Ricky Gervais fan and really only knew of him from The Office, but wanted to give this a shot (saw previews). I LOVED it. It was dark, quirky, heartwarming, with a dose of witty humor.

I enjoyed it so much that I spiraled into a Gervais marathon. I watched his stand-up “Humanity” then the “Derek” series and loved both just as much. I’m now a Ricky Gervais fan and so looking forward to Season 2 of AfterLife.
