Not to speak for Atomike, but for me it's a pretty simple concept; I paid for the hardware, I paid for the software, and I pay for the service. The main reason why is because I don't like commericals. That is the sole reason why I purchased the many Tivos that I own. I try to fast forward through every one and since I pay for the service I do not feel that Tivo Inc. should force any type of advertisement on my Tivo no matter how unobtrusive. It's been said over and over again and I'm sure people who feel differently (like the OP) are getting tired of hearing it but there's no way I can let a feel good thread about Tivo advertisements go without a comment...

My feelings exactly except AFAIC the phrase "Unobtrusive Ads" is an oxymoron.

I'd already resolved myself not to purchase anything via TiVo built-in ads. TiVo gets their revenue stream, but the advertiser doesn't get (with me) the desired result. Do I make a difference? Probably not.

So in other words you are going to push advertisers to use even more intrusive ads to get their point across.

Hey, I don't like ads either, I certainly FF through commercials when I watch a recorded program. I also understand that because of this the content supplier ARE getting less revenue. They need to find a way replace the revenue. If I try and force Tivo to eliminate the new ads, I am sure that something more in your face is coming.

Since when have the advertisers needed pushing? They hire people to make them as intrusive as possible.

And here I thought they hired people to make them as effective as possible. If the intrusion of an ad consequently turns a person off the product or service it is offering, then the marketers have failed to do their jobs.

Actually, no. I'm pretty sure that top FF speed (three arrows) is 60x, meaning it takes one second per minute of program (or ad). There aren't any 10-minute ad breaks in this country.

and yet going nuts over an image of the same ad being placed over the FFed ad is mature somehow

No, I'm just applying the same method I use for telemarketers. Call me trying to sell something, and I'll automatically not buy it.

I think it is something that comes along in spite of a ton of other stuff HR20 users have never seen. :D

After reading this post I started doing the same. It seemed to work pretty good, but occasionally there is no rating thingie and I whiz way too far into the show. THis happened to me tonite on Big Bang Theory. Oh well, nothing's perfect I guess.
