In NY there are usually three different types of "Apartments". One is the standard apartment where you sign a lease and rent it out monthly. Then you have condos where you are essentially buying the apartment. Third, which is very common is called a co-op. A co-op is what I lived in when I grew up. With a co-op, you don't own the apartment per se, but you own shares in the building you live in. The bigger the apartment, the more shares. Everything that is done in the building is voted on by the shareholder and a lot of that includes what can be done to each dwelling. A good description is here:

Gave it a chance. Watched the first episode and found it formulaic and stiff, and somewhat a waste of the actors (Linda Lavin especially). Recorded and forced myself to watch the 2nd episode, in the background, hoping that it might improve. Was going to watch the 3rd, but finally gave up forcing myself and being a masochist.

Yeah, for once I agree with the reviews. This was a show I was really hoping would be good. It's not a totally foreign situation to how I grew up. My grandparents lived in the same Apartment Building that we did, and my GM especially hung out at our house, or we did at hers. I had a Great Aunt and Uncle live in the same building as well. And my Uncle lived with my GP until he finished with college. So, while not exactly next door, we were in very close proximity. So I liked the premise and it being about a NY Jewish family (not sure if that was exactly established, but to me, given the cast, it was pretty clear), I figured I would like it. Instead it was dreck (using a Yiddish expression for junk, garbage, disgusting). Oh well

If they toned down the parents, and involved the brother and his wife more, I feel the show would be a lot more interesting.

I think I'm still one episode behind, but I like it fine. I'm not as hard on sitcoms as I am with other type shows, such as dramas. I like Lavin and Gould - although her character is profoundly annoying...she does it well. But I've always been a fan of her, so I will watch what she does.

I love the tall, cute guy. :) I last saw him in that short-lived sitcom with Minnie Driver and, well, he's just so damn cute. But I also like the other brother. It's a cute show and it seems like a formula with which they can do a lot, just beyond the whole meddling mother bit.

The wife is one of those "she's been in a zillion things" actresses.. (Unfortunately, most if not all of them very short lived.)

Edit: Liza Lapira. Wow, looking on imdb, it's even more shows that I recognize than I thought of off the top of my head. She seemed to often be the wacky neighbor/friend (like in "Super Fun Night" and "Don't Trust the B...".. and I'm amazed those were from 2013 and 2012, respectively.. yikes).

    and "Dollhouse".

I just watched the current episode last night and I'm still enjoying the show. Lavin cracks me up and I'm still salivating over the married brother, but it's cute - predictable? Yup, but it's a sitcom so I'm ok with that for some sitcoms. :)

Cracks me up how Lavin suddenly appears and scares the hell out of the kids.

I don't like the show much. It's very unrealistic even for a sitcom and I'm expecting it to not be renewed for a second season but I have to tell you I'm tired of David Walton getting **** shows. He's funny in everything he's in and for that alone I'll stick through any show no matter how bad it is.

I love David Walton! I also love Linda Lavin. Those are the two main reasons I watch. :)

He was much better in multiple previous shows. This is decent. I also like his wife on the show.. she's in zillions of things.
