9.1 Serious Bug - Todo list

    Just got 9.1-01-648 on my Series 3.

    When I cancel something in the to-do list (as I very often do for episodes I've already seen), the to-do list scrolls back to the first page. Repros about 80% of the time. Other 20% the list seems to stay scrolled and gradually update (like deleting something from the Now Playing list).

    This break is a major usability problem for us. Is there somewhere more official I can report it?

    yep, I was gonna post this too, if you have a 3 or 4 page deep 'to do list' and you delete something 2 or 3 pages down, when it's done deleting that one show, you're back at the first page, very annoying!!!

    Well, you could yell it out your window on the odds that a TiVo employee might hear you. Even that would be more official than here ;)

    But the real official way is to just call TiVo and tell them, and ask them to submit it to their developers.

    ... I think I'll hold off on the priority list and hope these things get straightened out before 9.1 is sent to my boxes ...

    This bug has manifested in other ways on other lists. I am fairly certain TiVo is aware of this bug already but the 9.1 release rolling now is already set and would not be changed at this stage.

    Certainly calling in and getting a case number to report why this bug is impacting your use of the TiVo DVR will help move it up TiVo's internal priority list of what to put resources on fixing next.

    Also when rating shows (thumbs up/down) in the suggestions list.

    Yes I noticed this as well. Pretty annoying.

    There is a work around for the To Do List issue. If you use 'Clear' in the TDL list it jumps back. But if you go into the item detail screen and delete it from there, you'll return to the list where you're supposed to be.

    "major usabilty problem"??? I've seen that problem and yes, it is an annoyance, but, I'd hardly call it a major problem!

    This is fixed in 9.2, but that doesn't help S2 users who won't get 9.2.

    I have an S2 (540) currently at 9.1 and I do not have this problem.

    I did however have it a few releases back, maybe back when the 7s came out, but it was fixed in a subsequent software update. It was indeed VERY annoying so I feel the pain of all of you who have this. I'm just surprised that it was fixed on my software update and you are still experiencing it.

    I noticed this "jumping back" problem right after the last release (Oct-Nov07?) and thought I would be patient for a few days/weeks to see if Tivo would notice the problem and release a fix. Well, I was way too optimistic. It especially annoys me because my ToDo list is large and I review it once a day to delete items I don't want to record. This jumping back wastes my time and sets off my emotions ranging from annoying to anger. I called Tivo twice today to "Officially" report the problem. The first person had never heard of this problem and suggested I look in this forum. In my second call to Tivo, they opended a trouble report (#8468588). At least someone will have to close the report by saying it was fixed, or say they aren't going to fix it. Either way, someone will have to take responsibility for it. OR NOT!

    There is a workaround for this...

    Instead of pressing 'Clear' while on the ToDo List, first press 'Select', then 'Clear'... it's only one extra key stroke, but at least you're not taken back to the top...

    If that's too much to do, then you won't get any sympathy from me... :)

    I have to retract this. I've got the jump-back thing going on too. Usually I delete from within 'view upcoming' in which case the jumpback does not happen.

    True, your method does not lose it's place in the ToDo List, but it takes 6 (not 1) presses of a button on the remote to delete the item and get back to where I was. Try it and count how many times you're pressing a button.

    Also found similar problem with the Wish List:
    If I'm on the 9th screen of my Wish List and change any option of an item, it returns to the first page of the Wish List. Then I have to page down 9 times to get back to where I was. 9 key strokes...

    Everyone uses Tivo a little differently and other users may not experience the same level of dissatisfaction, so I realize these bugs may not bother many people, but it is a little more than annoying to me.

    In any case, I appreciate the info.

    I'm very sympathetic. TiVo's interface is elegant and one of its biggest attractions-- there's a Zen-like, Mac-like, Palm-like quality to it-- so when it goes South, it is really irritating.

    And it's now been months, right, and still not fixed! We're still swimming through the molasses of MRV NP screen scrolling and generally sluggish menus. We still love our TiVos, but it is frustrating that the quick response-- and these various jumping bugs--are still around. Hand me a can of RAID please! :)

    That does sound pretty easy. Do you have a similar work-around for when the same thing happens in the Suggestions list? It seems TiVo likes to group all of the Thumbs Up programs together, so whenever I click into a show to view details of it and then come back, I get thrown into some odd location on the list. I like the Suggestions feature, but this tends to mean I don't get to rate the shows it finds as often as I'd like (minor annoyance).

    I used to clean out my ToDo list every so often, but with the writers' strike, I'm watching a lot of re-runs, anyway, so there's almost no point now.
