I got 9.1 on my 240 S2 and right after it first installed the thing was flying. I mean it was nearly as fast as my S3. After about a day the performance dropped back to about 8.3 speeds and now the thing is really sluggish.

It takes at least 4 seconds for pretty much any action to complete. The only exception is trick play which is pretty much instantaneous. Everything else, such as navigating menus and even getting the program listings from TiVo Desktop is noticeably slower than it was in 8.3. There is some kind of cache since doing an action and then doing it again is a bit faster (1 or 2 seconds instead of 4 or 5 seconds), but it's still slow.

Anyone else notice a performance hit on their S2?

My TX20 just got 9.1 last night ... that thing was a dog before, so if 9.1 is gonna slow it down more, I'll probably notice.

I've signed up for the upgrade 9.1, but as of today...it hasn't happened. I have the Series 2 240 and I will watch the performance level. I am pleased with the 8.3 software so far.

What's worse than not getting what you want?

Quick, disconnect your box before it happens.

It's seems a bit faster now, but not what I'd call fast. So it seems to ebb and flow.

Has anyone noticed a performance hit when browsing a remote Tivo via "Tivo2Go"? When I select my office DVR from the "Now Playing" list, it takes a full 2-4 seconds for the list of recordings to show up. Hit Page Down, and I get a "Please Wait" icon for about 2-4 seconds. Same thing when I select a folder of recordings on the remote Tivo.

All this has happened since both machines got the 9.1 update. Anyone experiencing the same thing, or have a fix? The Tivo Series2 units are networked via 100BaseT cable. Thanks.

I'd like to see a description of a way to isolate the S2s from the internet but preserve the PC internet connection and MRV and TTG.

Disconnecting your S2 from the Internet would prevent it from downloading the new software. It would also turn the S2 into a paperweight. In about 2 weeks the guide data would run out which means it would stop recording SPs and WLs. A few weeks later it would lose it's activation status which would disable MRV and TTG.

Basically there is no way to prevent a software upgrade if you want to keep using your TiVo.

FWIW, 9.1 seems faster than 8.3 on my 540. I don't get those annoying "please wait" messages that stay on forever like I used to.

I suppose if you can get to the file system on your TiVo you could try it. Of course at that point you'd basically be on your own and TiVo could theoretically break your TiVo by making changes to something on their end.

Seen the same thing. Haven't run into any explanation though.

My 80 hour Humax seems the worse for wear on this one as both it and my Tivo 540 S2 got 9.1. The 540 seems to be alright though...

My DT seems to stop for a sec. or 2 when watching either a live program or a recorded one. I hope that it's something to do with 9.1 and not my hard drive. Also noticed that when I go into Now Playing and check one of the other Tivo's, it takes forever to populate, and the transfer's between Tivo's are extremely slow now. Was 9.1 primarily to fix problems in the S3's and TivoHD's and as a side effect, boogered up the S2 family??

Maybe I'm the only one who does these things, or maybe the only one seeing them, but try browsing any list within the program descriptions. For example:
    • What has TiVo recorded for me (Now Playing List | TiVo Suggestions (assuming you have grouping turned on)).
    • What does TiVo think I like (Find Programs | TiVo Suggestions)?
    • What's coming up in my favorite category (Find Programs | Search by Title | pick your category)?
    • What's on today (Find Programs | Record by Title or Channel | Browse by Time)?
    • What's coming up on a particular channel (Find Programs | Record by Title or Channel | Browse by Channel)?
In each of those cases, from the list produced, use the right-arrow key to enter the program descriptions so you can tell what the show is about. Then use the Channel/Page Down button to move through the list one show at a time. Under 9.1, this takes over 3 times as long as under previous versions.

I've had it a few days and if anything some tasks are a bit faster. Not using TTG or MRV. I was worried about this update after reading some of the posts on this forum but I actually am pretty happy with it.
