Last night I turned to my recording of Thursday Night Football on FIOS, obliviously, and I was shocked to find that it was in 4K sort of. Not real 4K, but 1080p upscaled to 4K with HLG HDR. Clearly a notable and appreciated upgrade.

    Pros and cons:

    Pros:
    1. Somehow Tivo identified the 4K channel to record without my instructing it to do so.
    2. Good PQ
    3. The Bolt actually recorded it in “4K” as it was supposed to

    Cons:
    1. There is no One Pass option that instructs to record in 4K “if possible”.
    2. The 4K offering was not identified by the schedule as available, so currently I’m not sure if there is any way in advance to determine what 4K sports offerings there are, other than by googling.
    3. The Yankees-Astros ACLS is also being broadcast by FOX (I googled, not listed on the programming schedule on tivo), and I have no way in advance of making sure it gets recorded in 4K. I won’t be home at the time.
    4. The controls were wonky for the remote, and fast forwarding, a major part of my tivo use, didn’t work well.

I hope this is just the beginning, and things work better going forward. Still, a good development.

What is your provider? Verizon FIOS 4K broadcasts, including ACLS game 1 tonight are on ch. 1498

Yes, I am watching the ACLS at this moment on Verizon FIOS channel 1498. But I wouldn’t be if I hadn’t sought it out myself. It would be great if my One Pass could find it, because if I weren’t present, I’d be watching it later in HD not 4K,

Good observation. Does seem an oversight, even if 4K broadcasts are only now becoming available.

So it's broadcast on 3 separate channels? SD, HD, & 1080P/4K?

It wouldn’t work in my case as my cable company isn’t providing guide data for there 4K channel

Whats on the 1080P/4K channel when not showing 4K content?

Not for this channel. And not for when cable companies decide to spot cover a program

directv provides there own guide data for there 4K channels. Not Gracenote

Unfortunately, even though my guide data had tonight's ALCS game listed on channel 1498, Verizon never flipped the switch, so I just got the stock message saying that the provider was not broadcasting.

SPORTS... WAY over priced... I would prefer to see the "4k weather channel" or the "paint drying channel."

Sorry folks... Just not a sports fan and hate more that I don't have much choice but to help support ESPN. I block all ESPN channels. ESPN and most sports packages should be premium packages that we can add OR not add. If you want them, YOU should pay for them.

Thanks for letting me vent again about sport packages.....

My cable company has a sports killer deal. I save $30 a month by not getting ANY sports channels. I still get the sports stuff on basic cable and networks. But just basic cable, no premium or other tiers. It's not on their price list.

Sports is probably what is keeping your TiVo viable and linear programming viable. But never mind.
