Advertisements Last night I turned to my recording of Thursday Night Football on FIOS, obliviously, and I was shocked to find that it was in 4K sort of. Not real 4K, but 1080p upscaled to 4K with HLG HDR. Clearly a notable and appreciated upgrade. Pros and cons: Pros: 1. Somehow Tivo identified the 4K channel to record without my instructing it to do so. 2. Good PQ 3. The Bolt actually recorded it in “4K” as it was supposed to Cons: 1. There is no One Pass option that instructs to record in 4K “if possible”. 2. The 4K offering was not identified by the schedule as available, so currently I’m not sure if there is any way in advance to determine what 4K sports offerings there are, other than by googling. 3. The Yankees-Astros ACLS is also being broadcast by FOX (I googled, not listed on the programming schedule on tivo), and I have no way in advance of making sure it gets recorded in 4K. I won’t be home at the time. 4. The controls were wonky for the remote, and fast forwarding, a major part of my tivo use, didn’t work well. I hope this is just the beginning, and things work better going forward. Still, a good development.
