3 hrs ago someone on Reddit posted the 30 second skip was " not persistent " andyou have to "redo it" every time you watch something. Anybody know anything about this?

So do we have a problem? This is big. I use that 30 second skip a lot. My Premiere is working on a live Yankee game.

TE3 is fine. 21.x is for TE4. That's the benefit of TE3 not getting any updates - less chance to get screwed up by TiVo. (Though recently they killed Orange County channel listings for everyone, so way to find a way to screw up TE3 TiVo).

I'll ask the same thing I've asked in the other two threads on this subject that no one has answered
I haven't used SPS codes in ages since Tivo added a 30s SCAN into the OS many years ago, what happens if you go into the menu and set 30s scan?
It may not be exactly the same, but it's darn close, and officially sanctioned, no a back door.

TE3: Settings, Remote Control, CableCARD & Devices, Remote Control Setup, ADVANCE & REPLAY button Behaviors

ADVANCE scan forward 30 seconds, or
    ADVANCE skips to tick

I can not find reference to a 30 second SKIP.

    TE4 - no option.

Since this is the same question in 3 different forums, I thought I'd make the same expanded comment in all 3.
In TE3 the setting under Remote, playback will flip from "skip to tick" to "30s scan"
In TE4 it's not adjustable but the default is "30s scan" and the >| button will skip to tick in a FF or RW scenario.

Because of this I don't personally see why the loss of the SPS30 "skip 30s" is that big of a deal, "30s scan" does the same thing, adds the same way with multiple presses, even tells you how long the scan will be since if you press it 4x it pops up "120s" you may not have the screen blanked, but it's a damn close and for me acceptable substitute

However so far no one has said why if 30s skip went away and only 30s scan was left, that it's earth shattering, my suspicion is many have gotten so in the habit of just programming SPS30 they never saw the 30s Scan option come up as an officially sanctioned replacement.

I hope they fix this before i get the update. I use this a lot. I use the SPS code that it skips a whole 30 seconds at once, not where it scans 30 seconds forward.

Please help me understand why this is a big deal, both processes result in the same result, pressing >| results in it moving 30, 60, 90 seconds forward with almost no wait for the scan to finish.
I would totally understand if losing SPS 30 meant there was no way to do a quick "jump 30s forward" but that's not the case, and scan 30s it totally supported and not a backdoor code.

For me it's very simple - 30 second skip is instant, 30 second scan is not. I like instant skip, not the slower scan. Luckily TE3 is not affected (yet). I also have the quick clear SPS such that the play bar goes away almost instantly after using skip as well since I hate that overlay.

Seconding Moyekj's post - it's the speed of it. Especially when you stack up several (6-8) skips in a row, the instant jump is quicker than the scan.

yeah, 30 second scan takes a while. Though I will watch the shows I can commercial free on Hulu or anything else I already subscribe to to have to avoid even 30 second skipping or commercial skipping!

I had no idea a SPS code for that even existed. What is the code sequence?

NOTE: Like most, the above SPS is not sticky, meaning that upon reboot you have to re-enable it. But for me because of that serves as a quick indication of any unexpected reboot.

(TE3 only, I believe TE4 stripped that capability away)

I'll be the first to say I don't understand, but to each their own, I missed SPS30 for a few days several years ago and since then scan 30s has done well by me.

One thing TiVo has over streaming services is the eight second skip back. Hulu does 10 seconds, right? That's one thing I miss about On Demand being removed. I could skip back eight seconds in On Demand when it existed. Although I do wish TiVo had captions on replay.

I don't know what you mean by on replay. Tivo does have captions, and the VAST majority of the time, they're even correct when playing at 1.9x. (once in a rare while, captions are messed up more when sped up..)

I assumed he meant if you go back 8 seconds then close caps automatically come on.

There's a feature on Appletv where, if you hold the voice button down and say, "what did he say?", it rewinds 10 seconds and puts on close caps for 10-15 seconds
