It's only an hour and a half in, but it looks like this show is going to be a 'kinder and gentler' show.

    I want the kick-a** Jack.

Kindler and gentler won't necessarily bother me... assuming there's an actual plan this season. You know, some outlines, writing something in episode 1 with a plan for it in later episodes without making completely ignorant and stupid 180 degree turns in the show. In other words, something much better than the big bag of suck that was most of last season.

That said, so far it's not that bad. I'd claim to be p.o.'d at the idea theft from one of the Die Hard movies (taking control of air traffic control. How quaint!), and, well the theft of the idea from yet another Die Hard movie (Die Hard 4 anyone?) with the massively tied together infrastructure computer system behind the firewall that can be so relatively easily compromised, but I can look past that disbelief and hope to see something better down the road as we get into the mass conspiracy.

We've only breached one hard perimeter so far, and well, we've only had one agency compromised from the inside so far, so there's still room to make things much worse (almost as bad as last season if they try...)

Did anyone have stutters and breakups during the broadcast? Just trying to figure out if it was a local or national thing.

So... if my math is right, the body count so far:
Episode 1: two (the guy Jack was talking to and his henchman)
Episode 2: three (the guy Jack was tailing to the boat, plus two henchmen)

    :)

What? No "Drop your weapon! Drop your weapon, now!" I'm never watching again.

I hope Jack punches that smug FBI agent in the face, the one that you just know wants to bang Agent Walker.

Tony got caught in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Not the stealthiest terrorist of note.

Kinder gentler? I hardly think so.

Sure, there are some hand-wringing liberals setting the tone right now. But sooner or later, probably sooner, they'll be confronted with the error of their terrorist-loving ways, and Jack will be unleashed to serve a grateful nation once more with whatever it takes.

    I think Tony's still a good guy.

The presidential aide (Chief of Staff?) looks evil, so he's got to be a red herring.

I get FOX out of Providence in HD on Comcast and all the dark scenes on the boat we really washed out. No stuttering though.

    Yay for having 24 back!

I thought this was a pretty good start. I really hope Chloe is back (I do not want spoilers!) but I fear that Jeneane Garafalo is the new Chloe. She was kind of distracting.

It sounds like the son we saw in 24: Redemption got killed shortly after the inauguration? Obviously the first gentleman is right that he did not commit suicide, hopefully that side plot will stay interesting.

Having Tony back is cool, but a cheap ploy by lazy writers. He was so dead. Dumb dumb dumb. Almost as bad as the Prison Break version. Besides, if you were going to bring back any dead character on 24 it would have to be Nina!

As always the terrorist plot is implausible, but who cares?

Nah - didn't you see the small patch of burnt skin on the side of his neck? :p

Die Hard 2 was the first thing I thought of as well, but it wasn't a total ripoff. They didn't recalibrate sea level, and Miles O'Brien wasn't anywhere to be found. In fact, wasn't a mid-air collision of two airliners the original thing Naked Mandy did in the first episode of 24 (way back in 2001) that got edited out after 9/11 prior to the show airing?

I'll repeat a tweet I did when I saw the scene:

There were about 500 moles in CTU. Don't you think you should listen to Jack Bauer when he talks about moles in the FBI?

Of course he wants to bang Agent Walker, because he's been banging her since she came into the office. That'll be the surprise reveal in hour 9, and Jack will respond with, "Dammit!".

Yup, exactly. Remember when they complained that all Jack ever does is torture people? So they wrote in a mentally disabled guy that Jack didn't torture, he just questioned. He looked at the camera, smiled, said, "Ain't I sumthin'?" then went on to torture 2 other guys before the episode was over.

You'd have a mass riot of housewives if he wasn't.

I've been calling her Fake Chloe. And look, she seems to be horribly neurotic, if and when Real Chloe shows up, she won't last long. :) Also, Janine Garaofolo's star tattoo on her index finger was annoying.

His Presidency was assumed by Daniels, who deemed him an unimportant plot complication.
