    Alas. that is not the error that I am experiencing. When I click on "Pick Recordings to Transfer" it starts to go off and look and then a few seconds later says...

    There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR.
    The network connection was aborted by the local system.

    I've checked all my firewall settings. I've checked Bonjour.

    I have tried all the suggestions. Nothing has worked yet.
    10 year certificates...TiVo Desktop repair...Rebooted (everything).
    I have the latest TiVo Roamio update....V4 and Windows 10 Latest full update....Triple checked windows firewall.
    I have two windows 10 computers, 32bit and 64bit, both wired to local network along with Roamio TiVo. Both generate the same error.

    I opened Tivo desktop then tried to connect to my Tivo and had the same error.

    I then opened Pytivo Desktop and it was able to connect to my Tivo without issue and I could transfer shows from Tivo to PC.
    So, I would suggest just use Pytivo Desktop and forget about/uninstall Tivo Desktop.

    I have also reported the problem to TiVo. The reply from them said that they are aware of it and working on it. The fix will be on teh TiVo side since there don't seem to be any more updates for Desktop forthcoming.
    Until then we'll use the other tools available to us to download our shows.

    Hello,

    I've had this problem for a few months now. But this is what's interesting:

    I have a Tivo Premiere 4 & a newly-purchased TiVo Bolt OTA. I recently cut the cord and going antenna + streaming only. I still have about 400+ hours of recordings on my TiVo premiere that I'm trying to go through before I delete it all and do away with it. Right now I have my Premiere 4 & Bolt OTA on the same wireless network. Using Bolt OTA, I can even access recordings on my Premiere 4 and use the Quick Mode feature, which is great!

    Here's where it gets confusing: When I launch TiVo Desktop, it'll show a dropdown of my two TiVo boxes. When I select my Premiere 4, it'll show me all my recordings and transfer to my PC without any hiccups. When I choose my Bolt OTA, I get this message:

    "There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR. The network connection was aborted by the local system."

    So hopefully with this information, someone can figure out what's going on.

    They updated the OS on some of the TiVos and broke the old transfer ability. Given that it still works for some of the 3rd party software they must use some secret sauce API (perhaps just on the handshake?). I'm not sure anyone out here in real people land can fix the issue. The fix will have to come from TiVo. Meanwhile the 3rd party stuff is what will keep us sane.

    You *might* be able to transfer a show from one TiVo to another and then doanload it with Desktop from that one. This will preserve any workflow you've come up with.

    TiVo Bolt (Cable) on 21.9.2.v4 - not able to connect with TiVo Desktop... Works most of the time with pyTiVo Desktop.
    TiVo Desktop errors out with:
    There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR.
    The network connection was aborted by the local system.
    pyTiVo connects great most of the time, always lists all of my recordings, but will sometimes act like it is going to start the download but never actually does. Have to reboot the Bolt and pyTiVo then it will work again.

    TiVo Roamio OTA on TE3 (can't remember version) - Works fine every time with TiVo Desktop and pyTiVo

    Bad news. Just today I got an email regarding my bug report of this issue to TiVo. I have pasted the email here and emphasized the relevant text. I guess it is bye-bye TiVo Desktop for me.

    to be transferred from your DVR to your PC is no longer compatible or supported
    .

    and on the go using your smartphone or tablet with the TiVo App for mobile devices."
