Will the rebate work for people that currently have Tivo? I want to get the S3 hd but want to make sure i can get the rebate.

So long as you purchase the TiVo during the rebate period, activate service on it, and apply for the rebate before the deadline, you should be OK. Make sure you read the fine print on the rebate offer.

Incorrect. There is nothing in the rebate form (or that I see in the thread you identified) that says existing customers can't get the rebate. It simply says new service activation is required. If you get the S3 and activate service for at least one year, you can get the rebate.

I will probably call Tivo just to make sure.

I have had a S2/Toshiba Dvd player for 3+ years now and just recently got my rate lowered. So if i did get it and activated it i would want make sure i did not mess up my newly lowered monthly rate.

If you got your rate lowered by calling Tivo and saying you wanted to cancel service, Tivo will likely up the price on the S2 when you get the S3.

Some folks have gotten a retention discount from Tivo in order to keep them as subscribers. But once Tivo sees that you're buying more Tivos and Tivo service, they know you aren't going anywhere. :)

Very simple - if this will be a new service commitment, you qualify for the rebate.

If you will be transferring a service contract from an existing Tivo, you do not qualify.

If you retain your old TiVo, then in addition to the rebate, you will also qualify for MSD (multiple service discount) on the new S3. I am paying $6.95/mo. for a three year commitment. This was all done via the TiVo web site without any contact with a TiVo CS representative.

I was on Tivo's site yesterday and they knock $200 off the price instantly. I think that's the way to go when I get a new S3. Why wait two months or whatever to get a rebate check. I guess the only reason is for discounts/coupons at retail stores. I have 10% off at CC, but I'll still order it direct from Tivo an use the coupon for something else.

Called tivo and they said i could get the rebate and that it would not affect my monthly rate.

I just ordered the S3 but if i cant get the rebate then I will cancel/return it and get the HD.

Last I looked... Tivo.com was still selling NEW S3 units for $799.99 Minus an INSTANT Rebate of $200. I don't think one would also qualify for the $200 mail-in rebate.

Tivo.com was also selling some discounted refurbished S3 units.

The cheapest I saw last week was Circuit City for a NEW S3 (In store or online) $599.99 MINUS the 10% coupon you can find all day long by googling. That brings price down to $539.99 PLUS you still qualify for the $200 mail in Tivo rebate. That brought the price down to $339.99, so I bought another S3 last week. My cable cards get installed tonight and I received 2 1TB WD hard drives from bestbuy.com yesterday. Ready for upgrade this weekend.

I have not seen a price lower than $339.99 on tivo.com or any where else for a NEW S3 unit.

I bought my Tivo Series 3 on September 15th. A day before the rebate went into effect. Any chance of getting the rebate any way? Considering I've been a customer for more than 5 years.

I doubt it. You may want to call TiVo to confirm. You mayhave to return and buy it again.

If you bought it from a b&m retailer and are still within 30 day return period you should be able to take your receipt in and they can cancel and rebill.

Well as long as you are not locked into a 1, 2 or 3 year commitment on your original TiVo, then just cancel that one, and start a new service on the S3.

I would do that but i have a great rate of 6.95 /month. So not sure i would want to mess with that.

TiVo starts the price at $799 and knocks $200 off - bringing it to $599, and that's it. It is not eligible for a rebate.

Meanwhile many sites sell the unit for less than $599 to start *and* you add the $200 rebate to bring it down below $399.

Now do you see why you wouldn't buy at TiVo.com? ;-)

    Cant get the rebate without
    1. Activating a new service account
    2. Add to my new dvr to my account and get MSD.

So i will probably return this dvr and get the HD.
