We have (had) 2 Tivo HDs. One Tivo HD was upgraded to 1 GB HD. Unfortunately it has died (HDMI Port went bad).
Is it possible to do one of the following:
1. Replace factory drive from functioning TIVO HD with the one from TIVO HD that is no longer in service but preserver all the recordings (basically just swap them)?
2. Take 1 GB HD drive and replace factory drive at newly purchased TIVO Premier and preserver the existing recordings?

1. For the Tivo HD units, you can switch the hard drives, but you will not be able to preserve the recordings unless you can transfer the recordings to a computer, while the drive is in it's original Tivo. No Tivo can play shows on a hard drive from another machine. It just can't be done(because of encryption).
When you swap the drives, you will need to do a "Clear and Delete Everything" from the Settings menu.
2. The drive, as it is, will not work at all in the Premiere. With the proper know how, it can be "reprogrammed" on a computer to work in the Premiere. But again, no preservation of recordings.
You know, you(or some fortunate beneficiary) may still be able to use the broken Tivo HD by using the "component" or the composite/SVHS outputs.
Thank you for your quick reply. I actually had an extended warranty on the faulty TIVO HD. But instead of the repair job was issued a gift card (item was purchased from newegg). So besides lost recording I am in ok position.
