HELP!!

I recently purchased a second Tivo, and have been following the instructions below to setup different codes for each box and each remote.

http://www.uk.tivo.com/AppendixB.pdf

Trouble is it just doesnt work..

When I have set box number 2 to code number 2 and the remote, it updates in system information, and I do the same for other box and remote in a different room (to code 3), I bring the code 3 remote back to code 2 tivo and when I press up arrow in system info, and then down again, it changes remote code to 3, and using remote coded 2 will bring it back to 2..... !! I cant get each box and remote to stick with its own code..

My problem is I watch Tivo 1 in the room Tivo 2 is in sometimes, and use remote senders to control it, and the house is wired for AV distribition.. I have already accidently deleted programs on Tivo 1 when controlling tivo 2, and the wife is giving me some evil looks

Any ideas??

Block the IR sensor for TiVo1 (or even power it off) then set remote for TiVo2

Then Block the IR sensor for TiVo2 (or even power it off) then set remote for TiVo1

I think you have to exit the setup (information) screen to complete the remote set - otherwise it detects any remote and (re)sets to that code.

It definately works as I have two running next to each other.

Thanks Ozsat.. you are correct, you have to exit setup first.. works a treat now.

I have another question you may know the answer to... If I use a universal type remote (I have a Gen 1 Kameleon), I presume the codes for Tivo give it a remote code 0?? Would I have to "teach" the OFA remote each tivo command from a numbered remote?

To resurrect an old thread and clarify this a little further if you ever use a Remote that is still set to 0 with a Tivo set to any other remote code it resets it to 0. Therefore to use more than one Tivo in a household with different assigned remotes you have to set Tivo 1 and Remote 1 to Code 1 and Tivo 2 and Remote 2 to Code 2. If any Tivo ever detects a remote still set to Code 0 then it will have its remote code set back to 0 by that remote transmission. Hence you must not have any Tivo remotes left in your household transmitting on the default Code 0.

I have just learned all this after trying to set my two Tivos to work with different assigned remotes.

This is obviously done so that if you ever lose a remote assigned to a particular Tivo it is easy to get that Tivo working again with another remote.

Just as a further update on the issues with assigning different remotes to different Tivos in the same room (luckily one of these remotes is a Black S1 Philips remote so easily differentiated from the two silver remotes to control my main Tivo) it in fact turns out that when a Tivo is in the System Information screen it will always update itself to consider any remote input it receives while on that screen (from any one of the valid Tivo remote signals between 0 and 9) from a Tivo remote as being the new remote code that will now control any other menu on the unit.

In other words the assigned remote code in the System Information screen is not only changed after you have altered a remote's operating Code by holding down Tivo and Pause for 3 seconds but will change at any time in the System Information screen only if a remote with a code other than the one currently assigned to the Tivo is pointed at the Tivo and then used.
