The Rookie S02E10 - "The Dark Side" - *spoilers*

Two really bad plot points for me:
  • The assassination attempt. We're supposed to believe that an individual was supposed to track them when none of the dozens of reporters did so? Those reporters have a lot more resources.
  • As soon as the serial killer confirms she's working with someone, she should have gone directly back to jail. They already established that the only reason they let her out is that she couldn't describe where the bodies were. She had to lead them to the bodies. Yet she obviously was able to describe the location accurately to her cohort. Plus, once they know she has a partner, she could easily be leading everyone into an ambush or escape attempt.
And, once again, when they had Lucy run into the guy at the bar ... since it was an actor I was familiar with, I knew it wasn't a "throwaway" scene. I just didn't know if it would be a love interest or what it turned out to be, at least not until it was established the serial killer had a partner.

Even with those, I enjoyed the episode.

The Wesley storyline is getting old. I hope that gets resolved soon.

Aside from that, the episode was fine. Do rookies generally get assigned to high profile serial killer cases though? Also, given how she had been playing them so easily, I don't see why they would believe that it would be so simple to decode her messages and to catch her "student/accomplice".

I get really tired of every serial killer on TV being some variation of Hannibal Lecter. Of course I have no knowledge of what real serial killers are like, other than watching occasional episodes of Forensic Files or similar shows, but it just seems to me like most of them would appear to be ordinary people. I know it's all about dramatic effect, but when I see the first shot of a scene like the one where they were strapping her into the restraining chair, it makes me groan inside. "OK, here we go again" is probably not the dramatic effect they're trying to get me to feel.

She really figured out that 'book cipher' pretty quickly. I play around with a lot of ciphers in my off-time, and it would've taken me a few minutes to make the connection. She barely had the paper open and had figured it out.
Reminds me of Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code.

I enjoyed the episode but I agree that as soon as they found out she was giving the locations to a 3rd party, back to jail she goes.

Whenever a show has the bad guy keep a mask on, it is generally because they are someone we have seen, or will see, and aren't supposed to know they are the bad guy. So it makes it easier as a viewer to look around for the new character we haven't seen before.

On a related note, I've been rewatching Alias and at one point, there's a double agent who "our team" runs into on an op. Unlike every other spy (good or bad) this person is wearing a mask. Yes, they tell this person to take off the mask, but more than that, it should be a red flag for our team to recognize that there's a double agent...
