"A Very Brady Renovation" on HGTV

In 2018, HGTV bought the house with the iconic exterior shown on "The Brady Bunch."

Thing is, the interior of that house does not match what you saw on the show. For one thing, the house doesn't even have a second floor!

So HGTV got eight of its favorite designers ("Property Brothers," "Good Bones," "Hidden Potential", "Flea Market Flip," and "Restored by the Fords") together with all six of the original Brady kids to renovate the house to match the show, right down to the Seventies tchotchkes.

The TV series starts on September 9, but the HGTV website has enough short clips and video miniseries to keep you occupied for a few hours.

I can't wait. Other TCFers of a certain age may want to check out the website now and tune into the show next month!

I found some of the scripts online. I couldn't find any reference to Mike building the house in S1E1, but there is this mention in S1E23:
Grossman: Do you mean to tell me that this house you built and bragged about for so long is beginning to shiver its timbers?

Mike: No, no, all highly exaggerated, Bert. The family thinks its haunted.
And here's the quote from S1E1 about the tranquillizer:
Carol: Why don't you take a tranquilizer.
Mike: I took one.
Carol: Well, maybe you should take another one.
Mike: Nothing doing, I want to be calm for the ceremony and there's a honeymoon to consider
Carol: That's an architect for you, always planning ahead.
Quite an adult conversation for a family show!

Like many people, I always thought it was funny how Mike was supposed to be a great architect but the house is so poorly designed for the family. One thing that I noticed watching the show as an adult is how dangerous the stairs were.

The gaps in be ballisters are huge! I'm surprised there wasn't an accident where a kid fell down through them. Many scenes had the kids racing down the hallway you see on the upper right and turning onto the stairs. One slip and the kid shoots right off the landing.

I believe in the first episode they mentioned Mike had designed the house they were going to live in. I'm pretty sure they showed Mike and the boys living in one house and Carol and the girls living in another. I also remember that Mike offers Carol a tranquilizer to help calm her pre-wedding jitters. "That's the 60's for you" indeed!

I know Amazon has the BB for streaming, but for some reason they start at S01E02. They're already in the Brady house at that point. The episodes are also on Hulu and CBSAA if anyone wants to check there.

I thought it was the other way around. Carol tells Mike to take a tranquilizer and he already had.

I don't know if all of the episodes will be available for free, but the premiere is on hdtv's website and is streaming for free... Crossing my fingers that the rest is also available...

Also, Amazon Prime typically re-airs HGTV programming, so there is some anticipation that they will also make it available on Amazon Prime (but so far, it is not on there yet)...

Yea I watched via the HGTV app on Apple TV. They had one Kristin Bell ad they kept repeating throughout and I don't even remember what it was as I kept muting.
I skipped through a lot of it as it got a little too sweet at times. It's an interesting architecture where they essentially do one room an episode so its kind of easy to bail if you want.
I may come back for the final episode but I have too much other stuff to watch right now.

I also like how there are people around the country donating items that they have owned, to contribute to the house.

I don't know anything, so I wonder if they are planning tours for this house or something. It doesn't seem like that would be compatible with zoning but my first thought was having people tour through the house and steal things that aren't nailed down.

People are going to be able to spend the night. I was wondering if the donated items would remain for that.
