Just got a Bolt and have a Cox DVR with content I would like to transfer to the Bolt. Is this possible?
THANKS!

Would a SIIG USB 2.0 Video Capture Device work?
If this device uses RCA composite cables, the only problem would be MacroVision protection; some cable company DVRs put MacroProtection on any content which is digitally copy-protected. With the rise of HD over SD most cable companies are not implementing this protocol (IMO) so I suspect this would work.

If this device uses component video cables, you are golden. (Unlikely, component video is on the way out.)

If this device uses HDMI, then you will be prevented from using the capture device by TiVo's HDCP protocol usually.

Edit: Obviously I was speaking about connections to the Cox DVR. And I left a lot of steps out, like that you'd have to feed into a recording device such as a game capture unit, and then you'd have to use something like pyTiVo or TiVo Desktop to send your recordings to your TiVo.

I agree that this isn't worth doing unless you're trying to save recordings from local access television of your children's music recitals.

He wants to capture from his old DVR, not TiVo. A component or composite capture device will work fine. He wants to stream the result to TiVo. That will also work fine if a compatible format is used.

As for TiVo saying this won't work, they have no clue what they're talking about. I've streamed all my old recordings from another system to TiVo.

As for doing this from his old DVR, I think it's way more trouble and expense than it's worth. Most of what you've recorded can probably be streamed or later showings re-recorded.

TiVo is only going to comment on supported functionality. Asking them how to circumvent content protections from a COX DVR isn't even a fair question to ask them. "Have no clue what the are talking about", I know how to do it, but as a CSR, I would have answered that question the same way.

You asked, can you move content from your COX DVR to your TiVo? The answer is; no, not directly. You can move Content from a PC to a TiVo, so if you can get the content from the COX DVR to the PC via some type of capture mechanism, then it can be done.

Since that has to be done in realtime and you may have to purchase hardware - this better be some really important content!

I wouldn't waste my time. I would save that money and buy the movies on Vudu or create wish lists and pick them up over time.

If protected, you may also have to buy a box to strip the Macrovision protection as well. Failing that, set your phone on a tripod pointed at your TV and record away. Many ways to skin this cat. All a monumental waste of time and money. If you have 100 hrs of content, this is going to take you at least 100 hrs to do. So if you go at this 8 hrs per day, its going to take a solid 2 weeks. I personally have better things to do with my time.

I agree 100% with BradleyS. While Tivo's answer was wrong, it's the only one they could ethically, and probably legally give.
