Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons -personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its "Evil" grip.

I've seen Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, but never The Evil Dead. I looked it up on Amazon and it is (a) purchase only, not renting, and (b) rated NC-17!
I own all three on DVD. IIRC, the real value was in the commentary track. You get to hear Bruce and Sam Raimi discuss what it was like to make the original, the techniques used, the scene that caused the female audience to get up and leave the test screening, etc.

An NC-17 rating seems overkill given today's standards.

The series premiere was everything I'd hoped it would be. It felt like the atmosphere was positioned somewhere between ED2 and Army of Darkness. Not quite as serious as ED2, not quite as silly as AoD.

Bruce is the latest interviewee on Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast, and it's incredibly entertaining hearing him talk. Fun fact: Bruce and Sam went to high school together and did the morning announcements.

Well at least we know we will get two seasons out of it. Since they had renewed it for a second season before the Premiere.
That isn't always a guarantee. HBO renewed "The Brink" for a second season, while the first season was airing. Just like a week or two, they canceled the show. No second season after all.

I know this show is on Starz, but it could happen.

Yes, it was unrenewed last week.

Not sure I've ever seen that happen...
It's happened before. I remeber in the 90's the show SUperman: Lois and Clark. TBS or some network signed a syndication deal and it was renewed for another year or two. But then for some reason ABC cancelled it after it had been renewed.

I watched the first episode last night. Kinda enjoyed it. I have no great love for Evil Dead or Army of Darkness. I have seen Army of Darkness, but I don't think I've ever seen Evil Dead.

I will probably continue watching. See how things go. Not really sure how they can turn this into a series, but that probably gets said about a lot of shows.

Finished the season out today.

Generally, I think it's exactly what it should have been, positioned atmospherically somewhere between ED1/ED2 and Army of Darkness -- a bit cheesier than ED1/ED2, but not as silly as Army of Darkness. It's the perfect vehicle for Bruce Campbell to show off his particular shtick.

It does get a little repetitive after a while though.

My main complaint of the final two episodes:

I really liked the cop, I had hoped she was a series regular. As soon as she and Ash started to hint at romance, her time was done though.

I can't wait for Season 2. I hope season 1 comes out on UHD BD. I will be purchasing it if it does.
