Dominion S01E01 6/19/14

I'm willing to give this show a shot, I enjoyed the movie, and I like how this picks up a couple of decades later.

The series premiere delivered what I expected from the premise.

SyFy is getting a bit bold. This was TVMA.

And I think this was both S01E01 and S01E02.

I recorded the show and will probably watch it tomorrow. I'm getting a new DirecTV DVR tomorrow afternoon. So, I'll lose it if I don't use it.

I saw the movie and enjoyed it. A movie based on the same premise sounds interesting.

Wait... There's a movie I should watch first?

(I'm not against watching a movie first, I just had no idea until I skimmed this thread)

Yes, and no, it doesn't look like you need to watch the movie.

Not too bad. Maybe just a wee bit predictable, but then again it's not like they were going to setup all the major characters and then *not* have one of them be the chosen one.

I think this is the first thing I've ever seen Anthony Head in where he didn't use his native English accent. I'm not sure how I feel about the odd Texan, southern, mid-west, Arizonian thing he had going on.

Just about every major character is played by a Brit (or Aussie/New Zealander/South African).

I think the problem I had with Head was the same as the problem I had with James Marsters when he did American (which is his actual accent)...not so much that it's wrong, but that I'm so used to what they did on Buffy.

I forgot to set up a SP, but the next airing is is in 15 minutes, so I don't have to wait long to see this.
I can't remember if I saw the movie or not.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll probably check it out after seeing the first episode. I think it was pretty obvious early on who the Chosen One was going to be as they didn't do very much to build any suspense and keep us guessing. The characters in the show acted more surprised about it than the audience.

On another note, I was surprised to see that SyFy will be airing Spartacus beginning next week. I'll be curious to see how much of the sex, violence, and nudity they end up cutting out. I can't see them airing this uncut unless they're planning on taking the network in another direction, which I highly doubt.

I thought the same thing. And still do, really, but this week's Defiance really startled me, with one character's newfound love of getting hand-jobs.

Is that what that was? I thought the Mrs. was just shaking hands with husband. You know, just to keep him warm, whilst he was in jail.

Watching one of their previews now. They're keeping the slicing and flying blood, but looks like they've inserted digital pasties and panties (and probably loincloths).

I tried to watch Dominion. I barely got through the first thirty minutes., I then deleted the episode and the Season Pass. I might have been jaded from all the bad reviews I read about it.

Although I did like the Defiance season 2 premiere.

I bailed before the first commercial but the shower scene was nice eye candy.

and if you tell me the shower scene was after the first commercial that's how interested i was not.

It's interesting enough for me to keep the SP for a while. I thought Giles' American accent was pretty good. His speech patterns seemed to mimic Obama's in the first half hour. I never watched the movie and don't think I will. All the angel stuff reminded me of Supernatural.

I might watch the first episode of Spartacus to see how they handle the cussing, rampant nudity and over the top violence. Maybe each episode will be 20 minutes long

I'm in until they stop showing shower scenes.
Fast FWD is your friend.

The problem with supernatural/fantasy stories is that even worse than in regular unrealistic TV shows absolutely anything and everything goes so the writers can just make up just about ANYTHING to make a plot or character twist. So I don't know how long I can take it.

I thought about bailing on it pretty early, but kept watching. By the end, I was glad I stuck with it. I didn't love the show, but liked it enough. This is the type of show I won't watch forever. If it has a second season, I'd be surprised if I was still watching it. We will see.

Apparently I stopped watching it after 30-40 minutes. I went to see if I forgot to delete it and saw a "Resume Playing" option instead. So it's now playing with me sitting at the computer. Which is how I was "watching" it last night. Apparently it didn't even make great background content, and I don't even remember stopping it and switching to something else.

The movie being from 2010 and it being slightly familiar makes me think I did probably watch it. Not one of the photos reminds me of anything about the movie, but I remember watching some stupid SciFi thing that had "people" with angel wings like those in the movie poster.

I suppose watching it will be more a matter of there being nothing else to watch than anything about the show itself... hoping they happen upon some storyline that turns this into something more than a borefest. I certainly doubt it'll happen intentionally (because of interesting plots/good writing) from what I've seen so far, though.

I thought this was pretty mediocre, but with some potential. Some of the characters, particularly the kid, seemed to be just thrown in there because "we need a kid!"

More interesting to me were some of the SyFy promos for upcoming new series, in particular "12 Monkeys." Could be interesting.

I don't want to read through the rest of this thread for fear of spoilers. I did not realize this show was based on a movie. What was the name of the movie? Was it in theaters, or made for TV? Should I watch the movie first before starting the show?

Legion

Movie was in theaters. I guess you don't need to see the movie, but I think it could help.

I thought the movie was much better than the show. Well at least the thirty minutes of the show I sat through.

Does it bother anyone else when they seem to be acting as if their society has centuries of tradition and culture behind who they are and what they do and it's only been 25 years? I have shoes older than that.

Not really. I think that tends to be one of the themes of post-apacoplytic fiction. Society is destroyed and a new one is built in it's place, often very quickly.
