New Setup with Roamio Plus and Mini

Hi all:

I've read and read and read other threads on this issue, and still feel very dense. So I'm throwing myself on your collective mercy and knowledge.

We are getting both internet and TV via Comcast, with the location in the Living Room. Our Apple router is also in the Living Room.

We bought a Roamio Plus and a Mini. We got the Roamio installed with Comcast yesterday, and it does work (which was another story entirely). We have not yet installed the Mini.

Comcast installed a dual splitter on the cable line yesterday, so one side goes to the Internet service, and one side goes to the Roamio. We currently do not have coaxial cable carrying a TV signal in the bedroom.

1) Do we need a MoCa adapter on either side of the equation? Tivo.com is unclear on this. (My understanding is that the Plus already contains one, but do we need one on the Mini side as well?)

2) If we don't need the MoCa adapter, do we need to split the cable signal *3* times, instead of the current 2 - one for Internet, one for Roamio, and one for Mini?

Thanks.

Okay so if I'm understanding you correctly, there is no coax cable going to the bedroom where the Mini will be? If that is the case then you will need to either run a coax cable OR an ethernet cable to that location. If you run an ethernet cable, all you have to do is plug one end into the Mini and the other end into your router and you're done.

If you run the coax cable, you won't need a MoCA adapter at the Mini, but you will need one at your router (unless the router has MoCA already built in).

Tarheel, thanks.

There is a cable in the bedroom, but there is no data going to it right now. Thus our question as to whether we need a tri-split to the cable coming into the Living Room.

And our router is the Apple Time Capsule; we were thinking that with the MoCa in the Plus on that same daisy chain in the Living Room we wouldn't need an adapter in that room - but might need an adapter in the same room as the Mini.

Okay so all you need to do is connect the Mini to the coax cable jack in the bedroom, you won't need a MoCA adapter there, as the Mini has MoCA built in. And since you have the Roamio Plus directly connected to the router with an ethernet cable, it should be able to bridge the internet connection to the Mini, so you actually shouldn't need a MoCA adapter there either. Just make sure you put the Roamio Plus into bridge mode in the settings. You shouldn't need a 3-way splitter either.

So, since we didn't have cable programming running to the second room, DH decided to try the three-way coaxial splitter, since he understood the theory, and becuase it meant we wouldn't have to pay for a MOCA adapter box.

It worked! Mini is now in service, mirroring the Roamio in the Living Room.

Thanks for your help!
