Why a separate out-of-home streaming setup option in TiVo iPad app?

The TiVo iPad app lets you check or uncheck the setup option for out-of-home streaming. While in-home streaming is checked by default, OOH streaming must be checked manually. From a technical point of view, why is this? I'd think it would make better sense to always set up for both IH and OOH streaming. Is there some reason why a user would ever want IH streaming enabled but OOH streaming disabled?

I am a new Roamio Plus user and a new iPad app user, and I'm just wondering about this.

OOH steaming will kill your cellular plan's monthly usage cap.

That's why you connect to WiFi for OOH.

That limitation should be going away sometime in the near future. I think it was originally a Q1 2014 feature, but obviously they didn't get it done or chose not to release it.

Thanks, guys,

I understand the point about not maxing out the cellular plan, but I imagine that always connecting via wifi would nip that problem in the bud. My thinking is that there must be some other reason for turning off OOH streaming as a default in the iPad app. Could it be that with only in-home streaming on, you are allowed to stream all content, and that just the IP address is being checked to verify that you are actually in your home? But with OOH streaming, it has to check the CCI byte, instead of or in addition to the IP address, for permission to stream. That is, maybe it is legal to stream stuff in your home from the TiVo to the iPad that would be illegal OOH.
