series 2?

Are these still in use out there? I am currently using one, I got it on ebay a couple ofyears ago,and I like it just fine.... but I have a question- recently some of my OTA channels 'shrank'- with grey sides boxing in the picture.... it wasn't the tv settings (aspect ratio) so I checked in the tivo settings, and by choosing 'full screen' it was made larger again ( I have a small tv) Is this a sign of something bad happening to my older, but much loved Tivo series 2?

You probably just hit the Aspect button on the remote by accident which changed it. No reason to worry.

There is no Aspect button on the S2 units.

Is it connected to a cable box? If so then there may be a setting on the cable box causing the gray bars. Check the cable box settings. If there is an option for what kind of TV it's connected to set it to 4:3 and NOT 16:9.

Not only do the S2s have a choice (in the menus) of Aspect Ratio settings, either 4:3 or 16:9, but in checking that to be sure I was remembering that correctly, I discovered that someone or something other than myself had my S2 DT set to 16:9

There has never been a working widescreen TV in this house, so no reason to set it to 16:9 ever, and when I went through all of the settings when I first got it I'd have been sure to have set it to 4:3, so how it got changed is a mystery.

That's not the same. That setting told the TiVo which kind of TV it was being displayed on and only effected downloaded videos which had their aspect set to 16:9.

S2 TiVos always assume the input is 4:3
