I should have mentioned in my OP, I use a universal remote that goes by RF. I don't use the Tivo remote because my universal works my whole system. In fact, my one complaint with the Tivo is that it does NOT come with an RF input port for such universal remote control setups.
Having an active hard drive does introduce electromagnetic noise to the RF realm at times. I have a high-end remote so it's rarely an issue, but it's still good to limit the interference as much as possible (ie., not have Tivo in the cabinet).
The room I would keep Tivo in is too far for me to run an HDMI cable to it, unfortuantely.

I have a Roamio Pro, Premier XL4 and Mini. The Mini works well and everything but it's just not the same as having a full blown Roamio as your main device for primary viewing. I would not give that up and have a Mini as my main device. Once you have both you will understand. Plus, I can't hear my Roamio, its very quiet, much more so than any other TiVo I have owned, and like others have mentioned you get the benefit of RF control for the cabinet placement.
