Caught me by surprise. Could they be staging it for some kind of plot twist?

From my googling trying to find out if I somehow missed some bit of entertainment news that he was leaving the show, it was a shock to just about everyone. They sure did a good job of keeping that quiet!

Found this: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethe...ed-client.html

Quote:
It turns out, according to Deadline, that Charles asked to leave the show in Season 4 but he was convinced to stay on for Season 5 so that his character could be properly written off the show.
http://www.deadline.com/2014/03/spoi...-josh-charles/

Quote:
He hadn’t entered a standard, long-term contract for The Good Wife, which gave him an out last May. I hear the Kings informed star Margulies, who also is a producer on the series, right away, and she was instrumental in convincing Charles to stay on for Season 5 with a new short-term deal. That gave the series’ writers a chance to plan his exit as one of the major plot twists for the fifth season. By the end of last season, the entire main Good Wife cast had been informed of Charles’ pending exit, so they knew going into Season 5 that it would be their last with Charles (The Good Wife already has been renewed for a sixth season). To ease the transition, Charles was booked to direct two episodes of The Good Wife this season, including one following his character’s exit.

Also, that whole thing was so shocking that it made me forget the arrival of the hottie who played Ozymandias from The Watchmen, looking much better in his natural hair color.

I went from thinking "Well I guess the next bunch of episodes will have Will recovering from a gun shot wound" to "WTF!"

Bravo.

My wife always watches this about an hour before I get to it. I've got to give her major props for not spoiling it for me. Don't know if I would've been able to do the same for her.

I kept expecting Will to open his eyes and say "boo!" to Diane and Kalinda. I still can't believe they killed him off.

Hooooollllllllyyyyyyyyyy crap!
I didn't see that coming either.

I had read last year that Charles wasn't signed past this season so I was aware that they might write Will out of the series.
I did notice the tidbit about opening satellite firms in other cites dropped several episodes back and thought that they might do it that way.

But not shot dead in mid season!

I guess there are a lot of Team Will people upset right about now.

You know, I spent about ten minutes trying to identify him until I read the episode guest stars again and realized it was Matthew Goode.
He certainly looks different with dark hair.

That was a shocking episode. I had seen Margulies on The Tonight Show and she said something crazy was in store for the rest of the season, but I assumed it was not going to be THAT crazy.

It started over 40 minutes late here. We pad by 30 minutes and were lucky that we started watching a half hour after it was supposed to start. I can't imagine how angry people with DVRs who do not pad the good wife by at least 40 minutes will be.

It's always late here too. I pad by a full hour, it's insane.

Yeah, I guess I will increase to an hour. I think CBS has gotten too comfortable doing this because of their ridiculous "eyelert system"

If Michael J Fox goes full time, which the preview seems to indicate, my Good Wife season pass goes away.

Holy crap!!!! I was utterly shocked that they killed off Will. And just when he and Alicia were at least starting to talk civilly. Now after the fact it seems the actor wanted to leave the series anyway but still it was quite a shock!!!

One of the articles linked above indicated that he was going to be in a four episode arc.

The best thing about this season has been the Alicia/Will war. I really hated to see that end.

Casting spoilers need spoiler tags, anything from the preview is a spoiler. It's in a sticky for this forum.

Thanks, all!

That's some serious hate you have going on there. This show is much too good to pass on just because of one actor I might not care for.

Did not see that coming.

But I'm always amazed how easy it is to grab a gun from a courtroom bailiff.

I usually don't, but, I got this spoiled by three of the normal things I read/watch by the time I got to this last night. they mentioned it on a local newscast. I saw it mentioned on my Yahoo aggregator, and on another news web page I read from time to time. On Yahoo, the headline read something like "Death of..." without mentioning the name, but there was a photo of Charles next to the article, so it was easy to guess. So I watched with my wife last night and she had no idea, so that was kind of fun at least.

I like that they killed him off rather than leave him an opening to be alive. It's much cleaner to me. And I'm glad they didn't drag out his dying over an episode or two. Much better to make it quick.

So I wonder what happens now? Do the two firms merge? Is there going to be a power struggle between Diane and the other partners? And does that kill off the investigation of Peter?
