Television Without Pity shuts down today

I assume that there are others like me who frequent both sites. It's a sad day on the interwebs.

Anyone have suggestions for a replacement? previously.tv is the only one I can find that is even close to TWoP.

They announced yesterday that they were keeping the archives open, though, and the forums will remain open until May 31.
So much history in there, it would be a shame to lose access to it!

My friend who serves as a moderator over there gave me one last warning for old time's sake the day they announced the impending closure

Never got much into their recaps, but I've [mostly*] enjoyed the forums and will miss 'em. My broken ox is sad.

The American Idol recaps during Jacob's tenure are legendary for their humor.
He was priceless as far as writing recaps.
As a mod not so much as he banned me three times

I loved the forums- the level of discussion was generally very high with little tolerance for smeeking, poor grammar/textspeak, or not reading the thread. All rules more forums should implement IMO.
Not here, clearly but plenty of others that are overwhelmed by redundancy and idiots.

Most folks are moving to Previously.Tv.

Hmmm...first I've ever heard of that site (and the other one mentioned above).

I used to love that site. I actually went to a TWoP meet in Philly's Chinatown many moons ago. I eventually stopped after someone wrote something that I thought was stupid. I replied to it and got sporked for a week even though I still don't think I said anything bad. I found this site around the same time. There were a lot of really smart people on the site but there were also a lot of wind bags. Sorry they closed. What happened?

Same thing happened to me; got a nasty warning after replying to a patently ridiculous comment with , what I felt was, a logical reply. (This wasn't the friend who warned me, of course). The "boards on boards" rule really only served to protect the dumb from ever being challenged.

So my contributions leveled off, but I still read.

Miss Allie's amazing race recaps were great too.

I used to love TWoP, except for the fact that if you blinked sometimes there would be 10 pages of comments and woe unto you if you smeek'ed! If they didn't invent the word snark, they certainly perfected its practice.

Haven't visited in years and years though.

LOL! Did the term "smeek" ever gain any traction outside of TCF?

I used to read that site years ago. It was really well written. Why are they shutting down?

Bravo/NBC wasn't making money off it.

I remember when the 2008 buyout happened although I pretty much had stopped visiting by then.

I've never posted much, but I would binge read from time to time. I'll miss it.

I do think for some shows it becomes just a giant bitch session, instead of real discussion.

I never read the forums but did read the recaps--they were HILARIOUS...but also ungodly long. It was a lot of time to devote that I eventually gave up on.

Yeah, the recaps weren't recaps so much as comedy pieces aimed at people who had already seen the show.

But the site really is/was an internet institution, and it's too bad that NBC/Universal doesn't realize that.

I enjoy having the opportunity to tell people that I went to college with Sars, and took a poetry class with her.

I don't think so, but if ever there was a forum that could have used it it was TWOP (except that smeeking was punishable by banishment )
