Arrow "Seeing Red" 4/23/2014

Wow. Didn't see that ending coming.

I spent most of this episode somebody would put us out of our misery and kill Roy.

Well, at least Ollie started to say what had really happened when Shado was killed...or at least, that what he's been allowing Slade to believe all these years isn't true. It's been driving me crazy that he never told Slade, and that he has been willing to let Slade believe something that is no true and that makes Ollie look bad.

Sometimes I think the writers forget what happened, but at least now they're hinting that they know, and maybe they'll actually do something about it. I wonder if learning the truth will cause Slade to have some kind of mental breakdown?

(For those who don't remember, Ivo had Sarah and Shado at gunpoint. He demanded that Ollie choose one of them to live. Ollie refused. Ivo aimed the gun at Sarah. Ollie stepped in front of her. Ivo then shot Shado. So basically, Ollie did exactly what Slade seems to have wanted him to do, and exactly what Slade praised Moira for doing. He never "chose" Sarah; he just stepped in front of the gun.)

Other than the fact that he's nuts, I still don't get why Slade is so angry that Shado was killed. She wasn't his woman, she was banging Ollie. He should have killed Ollie out of jealousy long before that.

Apparently the real translation of "mirakuru" is "batcrap crazy".

That irked me, too. If we were supposed to assume that Oliver had mentally blocked it out in his mind, or somehow the stress of the situation resulted in a false memory, then they should have developed that idea further. Instead, Oliver just repeatedly missed opportunities to clearly explain what happened to Slade. Weird.

But selectively crazy. Somehow Slade is rational enough to run a complex city-wide conspiracy while simultaneously fooling almost everyone into thinking he is an ordinary businessman.

I thought Red John was finished.

Oh wait. Episode titles for something else.

So is Ollie alone now? Sarah's gone and Roy's in a perpetual coma.

Would it now be the time to re-introduce Barry?

I'm guessing that Colton Haynes isn't really capable of giving a real "Hulk" type performance.
I'm not sure what to call the performance he did give but I'd have to say that he looked more constipated than rage filled.
(He'd make a lousy Red Lantern.)

I hadn't heard about an upcoming character death nor that Thompson was leaving so I wasn't even thinking about Moira actually dying until Slade laid out the scenario.
(And I should have picked up on it once Moira revealed that she knew about Oliver.)

Then I knew that Moira was going to sacrifice herself.

The present day elements were fairly strong but (other than Colton Haynes performance) I think that the episode fell down some in the flashback segment.

I realize the intent was to reemphasize Moira's willingness to do anything for her children but I think that was already well established.

I've also always viewed Slade's motivation (love for Shado) as being on the thin side but they've helped that by showing the hallucinations and (as previously mentioned) that he is batsh*t crazy.

Nice of Sarah to desert Oliver during such a dire time.

So Slade has one more to kill.
Thea or Laurel?

I would think Sarah, since she's the one Ollie saved instead of Shado.

Hmmm, true but Laurel was the one whose photograph Slade saw Oliver staring at.

If they follow comics canon (which obviously is not a given), then eventually the brunette Laurel "Dinah" Lance will don a blond wig to become the Black Canary. That would imply that something has to happen to Sarah first.

Slade could kill her just because she's in his way.
(Assuming she decided to come back.)
