Old SD Direct TiVo vs THR22

I just upgraded to a Genie but I also have two old SD Direct TiVo's and got D* to install a SWM16 so I could keep one of the TiVo's for my son. He is blind but is somehow able to navigate the TiVo GUI via the sounds and has for years.

Been thinking maybe he should upgrade at some point to a THR22, besides it being HD is the GUI pretty much the same?

Main features that are different from old TiVo?

Are there any major bugs besides On Demand doesn't work?

It's very similar. There has been no attempt to use the HD menus so it should be just as easy to navigate.

The only difference would be maybe some HD-only channels that are not available on SD, but I'm sure you've already found out if this is true - or a problem.

THere are some updated search features, but nothing that would be a problem to a blind operator, AFAIK.

Thanks so there are no major bugs then because it doesn't sound like TiVo/D* has any desire to support it much?

So does On Demand work at all or is it hit or miss if you get a THR22 that it works with?

Does it hold 100 HD hours of programing like the D* HR24?

Some have reported success with OD, but it does seem to be the luck of the draw.

Yes, the capacity is equal to or better than the HR20.

It's just like the 2005 HR10 - classic TiVo interface very much like the SD DTiVos. He may need to learn about additional menu items that he can ignore. And yes, On Demand doesn't work.

thr22 on sw16 switch?

I have 2 ol SD tivo boxes which we use, both in a place that have only a single input. I was wondering if the thr22 can boot up using only 1 sat input.
thanks,
bob
