Is a 1T My Book AV DVR Expander the largest a PRO can handle?

We already own multiple 1T Western Digital My Book Expanders (and I see they can be hooked-up to the PRO), but is 1T the only size that can be used? I see Amazon sells a 3T MyBook but I have no idea if that would work on the PRO?

Is there a limit as to what size the external drive can be?

Thanks SC!

The drives we have now are currently hooked-up to other TiVos, but I think we're going to remove one and pair it up with the PRO.

You do not want to use the external Expanders.. when they fail you lose all the recordings made with them attached since the recordings are striped.
At this time 3TB is the limit for a Roamio with user-based upgrades.

I do understand what you're saying Diane but we've been using them for just under 4 years without issue. We hope our good luck will continue.

What does your last sentence mean though? Are you saying you can use a 3T external drive?

3tb internal, 1tb external is the "official" maximums.

There is a thread or two on here about the efforts towards internal 4gb....

Weaknees.com is selling up to 8tb upgrades, for a premium.

$350 for internal 4tb, do it yourself install

$250 for 2tb external, $400 for 4tb

$699 for 8tb, do it yourself install of 4tb internal +4tb external.

All hard drives have their life expectancy and will eventually die without warning. Just imaging if your hard drive stops working suddenly and all your recordings are gone, what will you do?

What will I do? Go on living I suppose? (I imagine you're joking, right?)
