"Bosch" pilot (Amazon Prime Video) OAD 2/5/2014

Anyone who is a fan of Michael Connelly's "Harry Bosch" novels should check out the "Bosch" pilot on Amazon Prime. (Unfortunately, it doesn't stream via TiVo.) It stars Titus Welliver (i.e., the man in black on "Lost") as Bosch, with some other familiar faces -- Lance Reddick as Deputy Police Chief Irvin Irving; Annie Wersching (Renee Walker on "24") as a rookie police officer; and Amy Price-Francis (Kara the conspiracy operative on the same season of "24") as a plaintiff's lawyer who's suing the city and Bosch for shooting her client's husband to death.

I wouldn't have thought of Welliver as Bosch off the top of my head, but he really nails the characterization of Bosch as an insubordinate, obsessive avenging angel. The production values are also quite good, and jazz music, which is very much part of the ambiance of the books, shows up.

As this is Amazon pilot season, viewer votes determine which series get picked up.

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds interesting!

Great episode. Kinda spoiled as I was afraid Bosch would turn into a smoke monster when POed. Fine cast. Story well told. Connelly deeply involved helps as did Elmore Leonard making sure Justified was done right.

Somewhat disappointed with a PILOT that suddenly stops with all threads hanging

I enjoyed it a lot, even without having read the novels. You can go to amazonoriginals.com to place a vote for it to get picked up.

I enjoyed the pilot. I think I've read all the Bosch books. Welliver is not how I pictured Bosch but he does a fine job.

Are they waiting for audience reaction before deciding on completing the series?

I created a thread about it already here:

I wasn't sure where to put it, since it's not "on TV" yet, and I thought it might get more eyeballs in HH. In any event, I really liked the pilot and hope it gets picked up.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm a hard core Harry Bosch fan and really enjoyed this pilot. I think the casting of Welliver was spot-on (SO much better than Tom Cruise as "Jack Reacher" - although I did ultimately enjoy that movie).

If anyone happens to hear that it was picked up as a series, please post here! Thanks!

That is how I felt about both this and Reacher.

I don't know who I pictured as Bosche, but Welliver did a fine job.

Also got to see Herschel (The Walking Dead)!
