Can a premiere be a stream client?

If I were to get a new Roamio to replace my Premiere, could I move the Premiere to the other side of the house and use it strictly as a streaming client of the Roamio? Just curious here, have no plans at the moment :-).

Sure, Premieres and Roamios can all stream from each other. You'll likely need a wired connection of some kind though, as wireless performance might be touchy.

If the "other side of the house" is on the same local network (no routers between them). Though *maybe* I'm wrong regarding the FUTURE out-of-the-home streaming/downloading functionality, but I suspect that will only be for phone/tablet, not other actual Tivo DVRs.. (at least not 'supported'??)

Yes but like BigJimOutlaw said, they can already stream to each other. The TiVo Stream was designed for phones and tablets.

Keep in mind that streaming only works with active service, so if this TiVo is monthly then you'll have to pay full price for the service just to use it as a streaming device. By contrast a Mini only cost $6/mo for service.

Dan is correct - you cannot use your Premier as a dumb streaming device. It has to have a subscription and will be available as a full DVR.

That said, a subbed Premier will work nicely as a streaming device... (in both directions)

Well, my existing Premier has a lifetime sub, and since I can't transfer it, that shouldn't be a problem :-).

I'm definitely waiting till either the comcast infrastructure update gives me new cable card firmware that I can see fixes the problem with constant lost channels or a TiVo update fixes it. No way am I getting a Roamio till the Premier works at least as well as it did before the 20.3 update killed it.

Do the Premier 's have to be on the same account to stream to each other?

For example if I get my cable company TiVo which is a 4 tuner Premier, can I stream content between my existing Premier? Both would be active but not on the same account which can't be combined as each have their own unique MAK.

Also, since you can stream between Priemiers, can you stream from a Roamio and Premier or must they be the same were in the same can you stream between two Roamio 's? ? (I'm curious because I have a Roamio coming this week to replace my old HD with a Premiere already on my account).

Thanks!

Yes. Roamio -> Premiere or reverse is fine as long as they are on the same account. In terms of software, the Roamio is not much different from a Premiere at this time. The only significant difference between Roamio and Premiere is hardware.

Awesome! I will definitely be able to benefit from that ability since my cable company just started flagging premium content which has prevented transfering movies back and forth between my HD and Premier.

I felt good about upgrading to the Roamio instead of upgrading via my cable company rental and now, even better!
