Big Bang Theory 1/30/14 "The Convention Conundrum"

Huh...James Earl Jones has really changed since I saw him in 1980...

No. A porn shop.

Well, actually, a newsstand/bookstore that was one of the biggest porn shops in Minneapolis...but also the best place to buy out-of-town newspapers (which is what he was looking for), comic books, baseball cards, just about any kind of printed matter. I worked there at the time.

I once saw James Earl Jones' naked BUTT live on stage (from about row 3)

It was a performance at our local summer theater "American Stage Festival". Quite a moving performance by James; sorry, I just cannot remember the title... It was related to the resolved conflict between a privileged white boy and a black man...made us cry...

Seeing his butt was a bit shocking...!!

I was genuine surprised when J.E.J beamed and said "I like Star Wars too!" it was a great shift from the typical "Get a life" reaction.

Yeah, having JEJ also be a fanboy was unexpected and really funny. And a change from his reaction in "Field of Dreams" which is what I thought would be the way they headed.

I've never been to ComicCon. Are they really that serious about tickets?

Yep.

They've become almost impossible to come by. I believe this year they've stopped offering whole-con passes so that more people will be able to get at least one day.

Exactly. They had to be thinking of that scene when they wrote that. It was almost exactly the tone and question. "Do you like Star Wars?" "You're from the sixties!"

By registering for a paid or complimentary Comic-Con badge you agree not to sell, trade, transfer or share your comp code, barcode confirmation, or badge. In the event that San Diego Comic Convention/Comic-Con International (SDCC) determines that you have violated this policy, SDCC has the right to cancel your badge(s) and keep any money paid by you. Barcode confirmations and/or badges that have been sold or provided by anyone other than SDCC will not be honored by SDCC. You must wear and display your badge at all times while onsite and at any official SDCC event. All badges are the property of SDCC and must be relinquished to SDCC upon request.

SDCC may perform any of the following validation of badges on entry to any area of the convention. These measures are an effort to prevent illegal badge duplication and unauthorized reselling. SDCC may scan the bar code, require a photo ID that matches the name on the badge, scan RFID embedded in the badge, and examine the badge with other technological and/or physical methods to verify authenticity of the badge and holder. Before leaving any registration area please make sure that the name on the badge matches your identification.

Not from SDCC, as the "we own it" verbiage is so they can say "we're taking it back, go away." It's a simple breach of contract, I think.

The JEJ segments were so over the top I kept expecting it to turn into Sheldon falling asleep on the bus or subway or whatever.

I kept expecting the JEJ segments to be a daydream of Sheldon's. However, he wouldn't daydream the strip club. I did laugh at him saying that the perfect day could have ended after karaoke.

Yeah, it increasingly had a dream sequence feel to it...although I doubt those would be the kinds of things Sheldon would dream about.

But no, turns out that's just the kinda guy JEJ is!

I had thought that they would write it that Jones had a mental breakdown or it was his less balanced twin brother.

I guess not.

Looks like Jones really enjoyed himself doing this episode though.

I also thought that it would be revealed that Sheldon was the one who made that Internet post about being banned for life from Comic Con.

I guess the real question is how rigorous are they about checking the passes against a photo ID.

They obviously have the right to do so, and can kick you out if they find a scalped ticket. But you can't tell from that how aggressive they are about actually identifying and punishing people who purchased tickets from scalpers.
