The Whispers

Just creepy enough with a touch of mystery to keep me interested.

And the episode seemed to fly by. I was shocked when the previews came up so fast.

I wasn't sure what kind of show this would be, but now that I see it has a sci-fi bent, I'll stick with it.

I've already changed my OnePass from an SD channel to an HD feed.

I enjoyed it as well. The previews made it seem more like a horror show, but I'm glad I recorded it. The pilot moved along quickly, and it answered several questions to keep the audience engaged.

That first little girl was very creepy! She did a good job as an actress!

I liked it too.

I wasn't sure what it was going to be other than potentially spooky.

The twists towards the end were pretty good - both the female FBI agent's revelation and her deaf son's at the very end.

I always wonder with summer shows if they are somehow inferior because they didn't make it to the fall season or as a mid-season replacement. I saw that with the full realization that it might also be strategic to creating a hit when nothing else is really happening (except the non-stop reality/competition fodder).

I was wondering how they would take the original 8-page story and flesh it out enough to last for a season or more. I'm enjoying it!

Great--I accidentally deleted this before I was done. So could you tell me what these 2 twists were? I think I missed them. Thanks.

Or recover it from the Deleted Recordings folder?

I am spoilerizing the 2 twists I mentioned.

Spoiler:
The detective's husband pilot is alive and is Milo Ventimiglia the "homeless" guy who lost his memory in the hospital...

and

The imaginary friend is an imaginary friend of her son and apparently cured him of his deafness...

I liked it. Expected it to be horror-lite, but I was glad it's a sci-fi show.

The whole thing in the desert was extremely reminiscent of the opening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Maybe Milo will be carving a mountain out of mashed potatoes later in the season.

Yes, I agree-I call this kind of show "creep-tastic"-especially with the twists spoilerized earlier in the thread. And the kids are good little actors!

I will keep watching for now. And I LOVES me some Milo Ventimiglia...going all the way back to "American Dreams" and "Heroes"

Someone could start an episode thread, then you wouldn't need all these spoiler tags... just sayin'...

I can't say I didn't suspect things would go this way from the start. Something about the presentation made me feel "someone" wasn't really interested in supporting the series.

Well, if you want to know how it all turns out...

Spoiler:
...go to the short story it was based on, "Zero Hour" by Ray Bradbury. Drill gets kids everywhere to use all sorts of odds and ends (electronic circuit boards and such) to build a series of "portal openers", and all at once kids all over the world turn them on.

Alien invaders appear ON THE GROUND all over the planet. No air attacks, ground attacks only with soldiers in unknown numbers. No warning, no chance for any police or military to launch a defense.

The kids have all been promised places of honor, but the parents won't be doing so well.

I saw a filmed version of the short story that ended with a child leading the aliens into her home, apparently going from one potential hiding place to another, until her mother, having finally realized this was no children's game and gone into hiding, hears the door (to the attic?) opening with her daughter innocently saying "Mommy? Are you in here?"

Fade to black.

Wow, that's dark. I guess I would've hated to spend another season just to find out that conclusion.

Crud. Oh well, we got the one season that was pretty good and made up for suffering through Under the Dome and Extant. Speaking of the latter, any word on Extant or is done as well?

A quick search around imdb, I couldn't find it. Do you know what the movie you're referring to is called? (Your summary actually was more interesting than this show -- I thought a couple of episodes, especially the first one, were really creepy.. then it was mostly a slog just to finish it..)

That sounds like it would make a great mini-series. What ever happened to the mini-series? Why couldn't this one have been a summer long mini-series with a guaranteed conclusion. Bet it would have had much better ratings.
