Has the Philippines become the permanent home for Survivor? This is the fourth straight season in that country:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivor_(U.S._TV_series)

This saddens me. Part of the fun early on was the new locations and in many cases the interaction with the culture. Seems that's no longer part of the show.

Well, they've started filming two seasons back-to-back in the same location. They've been doing that now for 10 seasons. So basically they've just done two rounds in the same location, not four. Four seasons for us, but just two production seasons for them.

In doing so, they've had to minimize the location as a "star" of the show, and made it more about the players, challenges, game rules, etc. Now that they've decreased the participation of the locals, it really doesn't matter where they film. They seem to prefer beach locations, but any beach will do. And if they're saving on production costs by being able to set up their production facilities in one central location and then film multiple seasons in the same area, that's fine by me. It just means the show will stay financially viable longer.

Not only that, but the Philippines has hundreds, maybe thousands of islands, so even if they have their base camp in the same location, they could theoretically film in different locations for several seasons without ever duplicating.

Obviously this is the case. So, if the location is now meaningless, why travel ALL the way to the Philippines? If any beach will do, there are thousands of islands in the US that could be used. Heck, they could use the set of Lost and be done with it. It would be a lot cheaper, wouldn't it? (or maybe not, union scale and all that).

They probably deal with less government regulations doing it away from the US, and probably keep it a bit more secret.

How is it listed in the guide data because all I see are reruns of previous survivor episodes.

I wonder how many spoilers will be made in this fluff piece of no production value crap. I am all about watching the show and enjoying the different aspects of each season but a preview is about as appealing as another "Favorites/Villains" season

I thought the preview was pretty good, a nice intro to all 18 of the cast members.

They do a preview before every season. I've watched it from time to time. Unfortunately TV Guide channel is not HD on my system, so I really don't have a big desire to watch anymore.

I've watched most of these and don't remember there ever being a spoiler. Really all they do is give you more detailed background on each player and some behind the scenes on how they make a challange. It is filmed up to the first couple of days of the actual season so there really isn't a lot to spoiler anyways. The biggest thing might be what tribes they are on.

It's significantly cheaper to produce the show overseas, plus they don't have to deal with US laws and regulations.

Ahh thanks for the clarification, I guess since I had never watched one I should not have suggested I knew what it would be. I just figured the way they promote the commercials showing spoilers each week it would be the same way for the pre-season show.

I live in Miami, and David Sampson is the President of the Miami Marlins. He's on the "Brains" team and is a very smart guy who should do great on puzzles and thinking through the different parts of the game. He can do the physical stuff too, as he has run marathons and other endurance events.

But...it will be interesting to see how he plays the social games as he is a complete jacka$$. It's a classic case of the Napoleon Complex. If he could come off as meek and blend in and be nonthreatening, he'll have a chance to go far. If he needs to lead and show off and make sure everyone knows how smart he is...he's gonna get booted a lot sooner than he should.

I just thought I would share and give you guys something extra to look for as you enjoy the program.
