Video window active, but rest of screen blank

This has been happening a lot to me the past week.

I'll be watching a recorded program or live TV and want to go to my recordings list,so I'll press the button on my remote to go "my recordings."

The screen goes blank for a second, and then the "live tv" preview window portion of the Tivo appears (in the top right corner" with audio), but the rest of the screen is black/blank.

I can press "guide" and get the guide to come up, then go to my recordings again and it works as expected.

Anyone else experiencing this.? I'm using a Tivo Premiere XL.

Try pressing thumbs down, thumbs up, play, play. That'll reset the UI and should bring it back.

I am getting it a lot too, started with last update. Someone said it has something to do with having your output resolution set to more then one, I have all set for native output. I just go to live tv then back into my shows to get it back.

20.3.8 black menu bug after delete/keep dialogue.

This is a bug I reported to Tivo a few weeks back.....

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=512728

Limiting the video mode to only 1080i seems to fix it.

I was able to force the problem by:

switching to a 720p live TV ( abc network )
press the tivo button ( forces the menu into 720p mode )
select my shows.
find a group with 1080i shows.
play a show
go to the end
select delete in dialog

sometimes returns to group list in 720p mode ( TV shows 720p mode)
sometimes returns to a black list ( TV shows still 1080i mode)

I was also able to cause the bug on a TV/Tivo that did not show the problem before, by changing the video settings to include 720p and 1080i.

I also noticed that it does not always change the TV mode when playing a 1080i if it was in 720p before it will sometimes just leave it in that mode.

They have botched the video resolution modes in this version of the OS!

This appears to have worked.

I'll keep an eye out for it - it's the kind of thing that might happen again.

You don't need to reboot the UI.
Tivo UI is just confused about the resolution.

You can press the Live button or the guide button followed by the Tivo button and that will bring it back.
