Will Tivo Honor Lifetime reguardless?

With the announcement yesterday on all news networks about Tivo getting out of the hardware business, will they continue to honor "Lifetime" ownership. My contract ends in March, and I'm concerned if Tivo pulls out from the DVR line will they continue to work with us as a whole? It sounds like they want to concentrate on the Cloud movement with the cable companies. Any input on this is appreciated.

The announcement you're referring to didn't really say what you're thinking it did, they are not pulling gout of the business the way you're thinking.

I'd suggest reviewing the thread on it at http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb....php?p=9981058

What model TiVo and how long did that contract run?

I'd say they'll likely be continuing the service at least long enough for a subscription bought now to work out to be cheaper than having paid by the month for the same amount of time, if for no other reason than to avoid class-action lawsuits and poisoning the brand name with bad publicity.

But I'm only going to feel just so warm and fuzzy about them because of what they did to Series 1 lifetime owners in the UK.

Well if they continue to provide support and service for 10 years after this announcement like they did in the UK, I'd be fine with that.
