Changing from OTA to Cable

I currently have a 4 Tuner Tivo Roamio hooked up to an OTA antenna. I am getting Charter Cable installed tomorrow and will of course be getting a Cable Card and Tuning Adapter. My question is this.

Is there anything I should do to the Tivo prior to the installer coming out to get it ready to switch from OTA to Cable?

Thanks!

Nothing much to do, it'll make you go through the CableCard setup anyways.

Just did my mine a few weeks ago and didn't need to do anything, the Tivo even remapped all my season passes from the old OTA digital channel numbers to the new HD cable channels.

You need to repeat guided setup and tell it you have cable instead of OTA. When prompted about the CableCARD select the "I'll install later" option. It's better to do that now then to wait for the cable installer to get there because it can take a while and you can't test the channels until it's done.

Thanks for the info. So I should do this before I get service at the house?

I think it took less than 30 minutes from the point I installed the cable card, called the cable company for pairing, repeated the setup and then had all my channels to test.

If your installer is like most, making them wait 30-45 minutes for the guide data to load is a guaranteed way to get them to leave without pairing the card correctly. If you run it before they come, then there is nothing for the installer to wait on. They will just need to insert the card and call in the pairing info.

One more dumb question, trying to get ahead of the game in case the installer has issues. Do you need to power down the TIVO to install the Cable Card or do you just flip over the Roamio and put it in the bottom with it still plugged in?

Thanks!

The Tivo can remain powered on while the card is installed.

It is best to keep it on, however, the base Roamio is a bit difficult since it is on the bottom. But I would try to keep it on, as you won't have to wait for it to boot up otherwise.

Thanks again. Really appreciated. Just want this all to go smooth.

From what I read the Cable Card should be installed, setup and working before the Tuning Adapter is installed correct?

Thanks for all of the help. The Tech came out, plugged everything in, called in the numbers for the card and tuning adapter and was out in about 20 minutes. Have been watching for 2 1/2 hours with no problems! Better knock on wood.

Thanks again.
