The DVD appeared to answer a question - nice Blink referance.

Regarding the cliff hanger [Reichenbach Falls] "How did he do it?" question in this thread - I had changed my mind about the Tessalator ... my new guess was:
The body/object that Watson saw hit the ground was not the same as the one he examined (Sherlock's street people made a prearranged substitution, Molly administered a life sign suppressing drug).

But perhaps the mask in the box now rules out that idea as being too obvious (although I still think Sherlock's street people and Molly are involved, the best I have now got is Sherlock somehow had a preplanned slowed descent or a 'soft' landing).

That minisode was so wonderfully Sherlock, they caught all the things that make it work, humor, pacing, emotional investment, etc, and more than anything, the characters were true to themselves.

Can't wait for the new season (series). Hard to believe it has been two years already.

Probably posted elsewhere but did people see the Sherlock meets Doctor Who video. I thought it was genuine (BBC made) and only later found it was a mash up made by a regular person. It was so well done.

Sherlock is supposed to be a master of disguise... any thought that the guy in the bar talking with the inspector could have been Cumberbatch?

Since that guy is Anderson, a Scotland Yard tech and recurring character, it seems unlikely

I actually did a replay to see if I could spot him disguised in the pub and failed.

Also first time through I thought it could be the guy behind the newspaper but looking at a freeze frame I think the hands are wrong and beyond even Sherlock's mastery of disguise.

There was a cop out, it was discribed as a jury convened under special circumstances.

The Jan. 19 date is when they start airing here on PBS. Jan. 1 is correct for the UK.

I rewatched the 6 eps about 4 months ago-- I didn't recall the character and imdb for the minisode didn't have a cast yet, so I was just sort of 'typing out loud'.. :-).

I was kind of the opposite. I did recall him but couldn't figure out who he was. Eventually I read a synopsis of the web episode where they referred to him by name and used that to track back

Final prediction day has arrived, some relevant how the heck he faked his death images.

The basic solution has got to be that Sherlock totally owned the street. The cyclist, the laundry truck driver, the people who surrounded the body were all Sherlock's Baker Street Runners / Homeless Network. The elderly lady was instructed to make sure Watson did not take a pulse properly.

Watson did not see Sherlock fall and hit the pavement at full speed. Two main solutions - the suggestibility / fear enhancing chemical warfare agent from the Baskerville research establishment was administered to Watson OR who/what Watson saw wasn't Sherlock.

One of the loose ends is the kidnapped child was terrified when she saw Sherlock. Presumably Moriarty or an associate disguised themselves to look like Sherlock.

There are several possible levels of involvement for Molly, suggesting ways Sherlock could stop his pulse, providing a trolley and hospital gowns to the Baker Street Runners, tampering with postmortem results.

Sherlock could have walked down the stairs with Molly chucking the fake Sherlock off the roof or Sherlock could have chucked the fake and then jumped onto laundry bags.

We just rewatched the first 6 episodes on Christmas day and then watched the new one last night! So glad to have it back!

Interesting anecdote about the Hounds of Baskerville episode:

Spoiler:
I live about 20 minutes from Liberty, Indiana. There is not much there but a small town with a couple decent restaurants. There is a state park just outside Liberty. I don't know how they plucked that location out to be a secret CIA location. Maybe it really is, who knows!

Perhaps a thread for the show (haven't watched yet) rather than making me really nervous to open this thread

No. Can't open a thread until it airs in the US.

This is a thread about the minisode, so anyone even THINKING of a spoiler for the new series needs to run away now!

I do not think it is a spoiler but if you are not aware of a particular English tradition it it could help you to know:
Spoiler:
On November 5th, Bonfire Night, an effigy of Guy Fawkes is burned and fireworks ignited. In the days before Bonfire Night children collect money in the street to buy fireworks using the cry "Penny for the Guy".

Are the episodes shown on PBS exactly the same as those shown on BBC1, or are they edited for time, or some other reason.

I'm not sure about this. The version the BBC showed was 90 minutes long, I believe. Once the guide data is available for the PBS broadcast, we might be able to figure it out. My best guess right now is that if the PBS version is scheduled for 90 minutes, then they would need to edit Sherlock for time, in order to fit in an introduction and those stupid not-commercials for European river cruises. If it's scheduled for 2 hours, then I'd assume Sherlock is shown in its entirety.

The episode that I downloaded was 86 minutes long.

The instruction was to start a thread in the UK forum but I thought one of the funniest little things I've seen for a long time was .......... small joke spoiler.

Spoiler:

Sherlock: ffffff
Watson: Cough
