Amazing Race - 12/1/2013 - Indonesia

Wow, I had hopes of Pinky & NoBrain going home!

Instead, it looked like the Afghanimals were going, but NO! It's a non-elim!! Bummer.

I have to give Pinky credit for eating the snake after them all saying what a picky eater she it.

Pinky also got her eggs boiled the first try. Those two are growing on me.

This had to be a non-elim. Finale next week!

I got a kick out of how bad the female ER doc was at putting makeup on her husband. It looked terrible compared to how he made up her face.

I think when Pinky is not being bitchy she can be cute. I enjoyed her reactions to eating the snake.

It cracked me up that they showed her holding the eggs over the steam as her partner says I hope she knows to put the eggsin the water.

I am still not rooting for them though.

They weren't annoying in this episode (or weren't edited to show them being annoying.) But they sure are stupid. They're lucky that the other teams had to go back to boil the eggs twice. How come they keep getting lost or going to the wrong entrance/place?

We made the same comment. Pretty embarrassing.

They need to change up their pattern a bit. I went into this episode expecting a final non-elimination and that's exactly what happened.

Agreed, it had to be a non elimin with nest weeks 2 hour finale. It seemed as if the teams knew it as well.

Should be a good finish. The Afganimals have grown on me.

Made the same comment to my wife. I would think that he'd look great and her makeup would look awful. But instead it was the other way around. I guess his skin didn't help.

Agreed. I never had any thought that any of the teams were going home.

How stupid were the Afghanimals that they decided to go back to the challenge they already left just because they didn't want to shave their beards?

It will be interesting to see how far the Afghanimals are behind. At one point they said something about taking 2 hours to finish the detour but then I thought they said something about how they could have saved 5 hours if they had looked in the plants instead of on the ground.

It was the other way round, I think. They TOOK five hours and could have SAVED two hours by looking in the bushes.

I must admit I thought he was dumb for using the 'head down' approach anyway!

Pinky is only 29? That's a bit lower than I would have guessed. Unpleasantness ages you prematurely.

Why didn't the peeps take more than a dozen eggs into the hot springs. If they boiled say 14 they could check on if the eggs was hardboiled enough or not.

I said while it was on that it would make sense to cook extras and check them before going all the way back and finding out. I guess intelligence/common sense is NOT a requirement to be a contestant on this show!

I wondered that too. Maybe they were specifically instructed not to take any extras.

I assume the rules of the task were that they had to travel to the hot springs with a certain number, but then could only boil the number they needed and couldn't boil extra and check them before returning. Otherwise, what you say would have been the logical action they all should have done. Since they didn't, we have to assume they couldn't.

Also, I think the amount of eggs they had to take on the back of the scooter was simply a number that would be difficult to carry as they rode on the back of the scooter over a dirt trail, so as to increase the probability of them dropping the eggs and having to return to the start to get more. Unfortunately, that didn't happen to anyone.

It certainly would have made sense to take more but there are defintely rules within the game we don't know about.

And of course there was no suspense from a viewer standpoint to that decision at all because in the after-leg interviews they still clearly had their beards while the other contestants did not. We knew they turned back and did the original detour choice before they even got there.

Aren't beards a big part of Afghanistan culture?

Actually, didn't they say that it would take too long to shave their beards? I don't buy it as a reason, but that's what they said.

One of the guys doesn't even have a beard.

They both do. One is just very thick and the other is barely there.

I wouldn't consider the other one having a beard. It's more of a stubble.

I know most of the rest of you hate Pinky, but I kind of like her. (I know I saw one other mention here so far that she was ok sometimes.) She doesn't wear makeup, check (good point), and she stands up for herself/doesn't take any crap, check.

The wife on the two doctor team actually seemed semi-subservient in some of the interviews last night, which seemed weird.

Didn't she say that she met her husband as a grad student and he was the teacher, and that they still had a lot of the student / teacher dynamic in their marriage?

Isn't that somewhat common among those who are strong in their faith?

I thought it was weird because she *didn't* seem subservient previously, from my viewpoint. They seemed to both be equals.

Maybe the stresses of the race are wearing on her more so than her husband.
