File Sizes

What is a typical file size for an hour long 1080P HD recording once downloaded to an iPad mini? Is a 16GB iPad Mini going to be large enough to download a few shows? Should be fine if the average size is around 1GB...but if it's like 3-4GB for an hour I'd be in trouble.

If i recall correctly, the file size of the original Tivo recording will be somewhere around 7 gigs per hour.

However, you can compress this so that it takes up less space on the ipad.

The Tivo stream functionality will do this for you, but I am not sure what the conversion rate is to shrink the files because I do not use that method. Somebody on this board will know the answer to this.

There are other ways to go about this.

My way....

1 use kmttg to offload recordings from tivo to PC

2 use VideoRedo TV suite to edit the files and convert them to mpg

3 use VLC streamer helper to transcode the mpg files from your PC onto your iDevice. VLC allows you to choose the size of your output files.
